Chapter 15: A silence Sacrifice

Kazunari-kun?”

I froze.

“Do you have lobster here?”

A-Ah, yes we have.” I immediately replied and brought my gaze to the person who I guessed as Sho’s mother. For the whole time, I just wrote down their orders or introduced them with any new recipes or delicious family’s seafood serving. After telling them to wait for a while, I made my move away from there.

“Wait.” And I turned to him. “I need to talk with you for a while. Got some time?”

He looked at me with his serious gaze. I meanwhile just silenced myself for a while.

“Follow me.”

~*~*~*~

From afar, I could hear sounds of people talking and laughing in the restaurant. However, Sho still didn’t say anything beside me as I thought he was enjoying the sooth night breeze while watching the sea waves in front us. Fortunately aunty let me to go with him back then.

“How’s your doing now?”

Sho finally said something after kept quiet since we sat down on the white sand.

“Great.”

He just nodded.

“That’s good. Jun must be happy when he finds out.”

I sighed.

“I believe that you actually want to ask me something.”

He looked at me immediately. I noticed that he was biting his lower lip, probably felt hesitant if he should ask me or not.

Actually yes.”

His gaze then suddenly changed into a serious one.

“I want to know; what do you mean by you said you never hate Jun before.”

I immediately turned to speechless. I never expected that he was going to ask that.

“It justillogical, you know. Even though you said you didn’t hate him, you still treating him coldly. I want to know; why?”
“And why?”
“Eh?”

I returned his questioning stare.

“Why you're so curious about it?”
“Cause it’s unfair for Jun. At least, explain what do you mean by you didn’t hate him.”

I brought my eyes back to the sea in front us.

Tsk.

“It’s none of your business.”
“It’s not the answer that I want to hear, Kazunari-kun.

Sho now staring at me dissatisfied.

“Please. It’s really unfair for Jun. He deserves to know why. Plus, I believe you won’t explain it although he’s the one who asking now and not me, right?”

I sighed when Sho started to be so persistent with me.

“There’s a lot of reason. But what I can say now is cause I don’t want him to lose his friends.”

I know Sho was already frowning beside me, so I continued.

“You also know how many people hate me right? If I get along with him, I know that Jun is going to lose what he already had now. And I believe you’ll never want to become his friend also right?”
“Oh, come on. Just cut the crap.” Sho’s suddenly said as he looked at our front again. I turned to him immediately with my confused stare.

What does he mean?

“I won’t do that.”

I frowned.

“Maybe his other friends will, but not me. I’m not becoming his friend cause he is clever, popular or what. It's just cause I know he is a good guy like you know him, although I’m sure that I didn’t understand him as much as you. If I started to hate and leave him just because he got a twin ‘like you’, that means I’m not being sincere to become his very best friend, you know.”

He then returned my disbelieving eyes.

“You’re so wrong about me if you think that way, Kazunari-kun. Definitely, I’m not going to greet you before and even help Jun to find you back if I’m that kind of person.”

I became completely loss of words. Then, he sighed.

“You know, Jun is going home tomorrow.”
“Eh?”
“I will take the first train and go straight to the airport tomorrow. I believe he will be more than happy if you come along.”
“Hell, no.” I said as looked at my front again. This guy must be kidding me.

“Jun told me before that he always felt empty and kind of hard to breathe every time he separated with you. Perhaps, I can’t feel it as I’ve no twins at all. But I believe you get it.”

I hate to admit it, but Sho was right. I always find that it’s hard for me to sleep especially a week after he took his leave. Maybe for some people it sounded ridiculous. But there’s no way group of d*mn people like them will get it UNLESS they have one.

“Plus, he accepts the exchange student’s offer is because of you too. You guys have a promise to each other, am I right?”

My forehead goes wrinkled by his words. A promise?

Suddenly he stood up and got rid of the sand stain on his trousers.

“My family probably is waiting for me now.”
“You’re not going to ask me to go home?”
“At first, I thought so. But…” He slowly brought his gaze to the restaurant that made me followed him; wondering what made him to look at there. I however widened my eyes in shock when I saw Aiba and Ohno were watching us from inside the restaurant worriedly.

seems you’ve good friends with you. So, I think no need anymore.”

He smiled at me as I turned to him again.

“And I believe they are the one who manage to change you.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Back then, there’s no way you’re going to talk to me no matter what. But today, we can hold a conversation and you even didn’t curse me like usual at all. It must because of them right?”

Somehow, I could feel a warm feeling deep inside my heart. I never realized I have changed. And I even never thought they can change me.

For the first time after years, I felt my lips slowly curved with a true smile from my heart.

Aiba, Ohno. How grateful I am for having both of you beside me.

“Alright. I’m going to wait for you in front of the train station tomorrow. Make sure you will come.”
“I’m busy to help them here.”
“Then, I will talk to your boss. You must come and see him, you know. He misses you so much.”

But I didn’t answer him.

Finally, I heard Sho let out a heavy sigh before slowly walked away from beside me; leaving me all alone there. As I saw him was gradually disappearing to reach the restaurant for every steps he took, I immediately stood up.

“Wait.”

And I saw him turned to me.

“When you shout at me at the train station before, what you actually want to say?”

He frowned. Immediately, I stepped closer to him.

“You said something like if not because of Jun, I already havewhat?”

Sho’s face suddenly changed. I meanwhile just continued to walk on till we finally stood face to face.

“Actually, Jun told me to not say anything about this, but…” Sho didn’t continue his sentence but scratched his back head with a slight hesitant face. He then looked at me and bit his lower lip.

“Well, you deserve to know.”
“About what?”

He sighed heavily.

When you tried to commit suicide about four months ago, Jun was the first one who found you.”

Yeah. I still remembered it.

“Your family immediately took you to the hospital, but when they already reached there, the doctor said that the chance for you to survive is almost impossible. You already lose too much blood and…”
And?”
what they can only do is wait till you sleepforever.”
“But then, how come I could survive?”

At first, Sho didn’t say anything at all. But then, he took a deep breath before brought his gaze away from me.

“Jun did a blood donation to save you. Even though the doctor reminded him so much time that he already donated too much blood, he kept pleading for just take it as much as it needed to save you. He couldn’t see you die in front of him just like that.”

I could feel my lungs suddenly tighten.

Oh, God.

“Finally, they managed to save you, but Jun collapsed right after it. He lost too much blood and almost lost his life because of it. He just woke up two days before you.”

I gritted my teeth hardly. That means if not because of him I must be alreadyDIE?

“Please consider back about what I said before.”

Slowly, I looked up at Sho with my already brimmed eyes.

“Let’s come and see him, just for this time.”

~*~*~*~
I can’t sleep and even closed my eyes the entire night. Sometimes, I brought my eyes and quietly watching the already snoring Aiba and Ohno beside me. They fell into a deep sleep right after their head touched the pillows hours ago.

My mind was completely bothered by what Sho just told me. Why I never realized Jun’s blood was flowing in my body after such long time? I’m such a dumb*ss!

As I sat up and hugged my knees on my futon, I buried my forehead on my kneecaps.

Should I go and see him? Or should I stay with my promise? What I suppose to do now? My guilty feelings for ruining his life before still not fade away and now I just find out he almost died because of me.

Say, Kazunari. What you’re going to do to after this to make his life miserable again? YOU ARE JERK!

My face slowly damped with my tears. It was fine if I just felt guilty for ruining Jun’s suppose-to-be nice life. ButI can’t bear with the guilty feelings with my bad treatment on him for these two years.

I had no idea how long I was staying on that state. I just finally managed to control my overflow feelings after reminding myself that I did it for his sake. For his OWN goodness.

Slowly, I felt the warmness from the sunlight outside my body that made me finally lifted my head again.

“This is bad.”

Aiba suddenly muttered beside me before suddenly sat up. I meanwhile startled and looked at him confusedly.

“Washroom~”

Gosh! Shock me like hell!

I just chuckled when he got up, followed with several coughs from his mouth. He then calmly walked pass me without noticing thathe just stepped on Ohno’s shin.

“Ouch!” Ohno cried out and sat up on his futon immediately. However, Aiba was too busy with his cough. He just twisted the knob, opened, walked out and closed it.

...The end.

“How could you Masaki…” I laughed out when Ohno started to massage his shin with a pout. These guys really know how to make my day.

“Have you decided already?”
“About what?”
“Whether you should come and see your twins today.”

He looked at me while massaging his leg.

I don’t know.”

Abruptly, he stopped. He then crossed his legs and waited for my further words.

“I’m totally confused. My mind said not, but my heart…”

I sighed.

“I don’t know.”

But I startled when Ohno suddenly patted my shoulder.

“Do what you think right.”
“Yeah. We’re going to support you!”

And Aiba immediately burst with a hard cough again.

“How long you’ve been here?”
“Just got here.” He said between his giggle.

Eww. You haven’t washed your hands yet, don’t you?”
“I have!”

I just laughed by their childish behavior.

..So, do what I thinkright?

Slowly, I brought my eyes to something on Aiba’s desk.

~*~*~*~

“His flight will be landing soon.”

Sho said as both of us took a look at the screening flight’s schedule. We’re standing far from the group of family and friends of other applicators as I told Sho that I didn’t want to bump into mom and dad.

“Just go and wait there with them. I won’t run away anyway.”

I saw he just shook his head with his eyes still on the screen; counting the difference between now and the suppose-to-be landed time.

Suddenly, Ohno’s mobile phone inside my pocket rang annoyingly again.

Grrrr. I’m going to kill him after this!

“What?” I answered it with a bit high pitch, showing that he’s bothering me by keep doing that over and over again.

-“Your twins already there?”
“He’s not, AIBA. Stop calling me. It’s annoying.”
-“But I’m excited!”

If I knew that he was going to non-stop calling me like this, I will definitely refuse Ohno’s offer to borrow his phone back then.

-“Call me when you already see him! Bye!”

And the sound of beeping from the other line made me snort furiously.

“Your friends?”

Sho just laughed when I nod.

“What is inside that?”

He asked while pointing at the white envelope in my hand.

“For Jun?”

Err…

Fortunately, an announcement for Jun’s flight suddenly echoed and got Sho’s attention immediately.

“He must be so surprised to see you. I still didn’t tell him anything, you know.”

And once again, Ohno’s mobile phone rang loudly inside my pocket. I just let out a sigh before took it out and read the name on the screen.

Aiba, I told you for the countless time already! Stop-!”
-“Kazunari, it’s me!”

Ohno?

-“Masaki suddenly collapsed when we wanted to open this restaurant. We’re heading to hospital now.”
“What?” I widen my eyes. “No way! He just called me!”

-“I don’t know. He suddenly coughed and faint.”

Now I remember.

He was actually coughing since this morning.

Kazunari-kun, they’re coming out! Let’s come closer so Jun can see us!”

I turned to Sho beside me.

-“Have you met your twins?”

No. That’s not what's important now.

“I’ll be there soon.” And I ended the call immediately. Just when I was about to storm out of there, Sho suddenly grabbed my arm.

“Where do you want to go? He’s already here!”

I swallowed hardly. Then, I immediately pulled away Sho’s grip from my arm and shoved the white envelop to his palm.

“Give this to him.”
“Wait! Kazunari-kun-!”

However, I just stormed out of there and stopped any taxi that I found outside.

I’m not going to regret this. After all, I’ve promised that I’m not going to make Jun’s life become misery again. I believe this is a punishment for me for trying to break my promise before.

And I owe Aiba my current life. He is my best friend, my really true best friend; together with Ohno.

That’s why I will NEVER turn them down!
