Chapter 17: Endless disillusionment

Slowly, I twisted the doorknob and stepped into Kazu’s room. I didn’t bother to switch on the light even though the room was in pitch dark. After Kazu had been chased out from this house, I’ll come here whenever I missed his existence. Sometimes, I even sleep on his bed or touch his things; something that I didn’t dare to do when he’s still here. With a heavy sigh, I leant on the wall behind me. I crouched down slowly on the floor before brought my gaze to my lap and swallowed hardly.

30 minutes ago I just found out from the police that Kazu was arrested because of the numerous drugs with him. But, of course I can’t believe what they told me. I believed no matter what Kazu WON’T ever do that. And that's why I tried to chase him before for ensured him that I will do anything to free him.

But the way he's looking before somehow made feel so terrified. His eyes looked likehe was already giving up in anything.

I wiped my face with my right palm in frustration.

I know that I must do something but I have no idea what is it.

By telling the police that Kazu’s is not guilty without any proof that can make them believe on him? Or admitting that the drugs are mine which will lead to the more complicated problem for Kazu? But if I take so much time too, what if Kazu gradually lose of his confidence and admits it was his? And if that's so…

I immediately hit my head on the wall behind.

No.

Kazu won’t admit something that he never did it. I know it. As much as I believe that he is completely innocent, it as much as I believe he is not going to admit the drug is his. That’s the reason why I keep this matter from mom and dad’s knowledge as I don’t want Kazu’s situation become far worse.

I believe he won’t. I know it. I knowit.

But-butwhat ifwhat…

“ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!” I screamed loudly before punched hardly the floor with all my might.

I’m SO useless! Completely useless! Why I can’t do anything whenever he really needs someone presence beside?! I’M SUCH A USELESS! A REAL USELESS!!!

Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door.

“Are you okay, Jun?”

Mom worried face appeared from behind the door as mom pulled open it. I however didn’t answer it but buried my face on my kneecaps.

“Honey, if there’s something bothering you, you can tell me.”

If you know what it is, momI don’t think you can do anything about it either.

“Jun, a-”
“Leave me alone.”
“But, Jun-”
“Please.” I started to beg, hoping that mom will go and let me all by myself.

For a while, I didn’t hear any response from mom. It took a few minutes before the sound of the closing door and footsteps leaving the place came into my ears.

I slowly brought my face up again and supported my chin on my knees, my tears slowly flowed down.

I feel so terrible. So terrible for couldn’t do anything at all.

Then, the sound of my phone ringing in my pocket echoed all around the dark room.

~*~*~*~

“Here?”

Sho nodded by my question. As both of us slowly stepped into the beach restaurant, a waiter came to approach us with a smile.

“Two persons, sir?”
“I’m sorry, but we came here to see someone.”

The waiter frowned.

“May we see this restaurant owner?”
“Ah, sure. I’ll call for him.”

Immediately, the waiter made his movement into the kitchen. I meanwhile took that chance to look all around the place.

Last night, Sho suddenly called me and suggested that we should look for Kazu’s friends in Chiba and talk with them about this matter. At first, I felt surprised as I knew the district was a bit far here. Plus, Sho even said that he accidently bumped into Kazu at there, working as a waiter in a beach restaurant owned by his friend’s parents

“May I help you, young men?” A tall man suddenly came and shot us with a smile.

“Ah, good morning.” Both of us bow down immediately before he followed to do the same gesture.

“I’m sorry sir, but do you know Miyamoto Kazunari?”

His face changed dramatically. For a while, he didn’t say anything but stared us with a frown.

“You guys are…?”
“Ah, I’m sorry for not introducing ourselves first. My name is Miyamoto Jun, Kazu’s twins. And this is my friend, Sakurai Sho. He said that he ever came and found Kazu was working in here before.”
Kazunari and you are twins?!”
“Indeed, sir. We are fraternal twins. That’s why our faces don't look so similar.”
“Who are they, dear?” a lady suddenly came out from the kitchen before standing beside the restaurant’s owner.

Kazunari’s twins, Miyamoto Jun with his friend, Sakurai Sho.”
“So that means you guys are looking for Masa and Satoshi-chan right?” her voice slightly trembling. I can see she was trying to hide her upset feelings from her eyes.

Masa and Satoshi-chan? Are you talking about Kazunari-kun’s friends, aunty?”

The lady nodded.

Masa is my son. I heard that Kazunari-chan is supposed to see his twins on the day that my son was sent into the hospital two days ago, but he immediately came back when my son suddenly passed out.”

Sho just nodded understandingly beside me.

“You’reJun-kun, right?”
“Ah, yes.”
“You’ve such a kind twins. I’m so happy my son gets to know him.”

Her compliment however forced me to curve with a bitter smile. Indeed, he is but I on the other hand...am totally a useless twins.

“Actually we’re here to see Kazunari-kun’s friends. Can you tell us where are they?”

The restaurant owner and his wife then gave us the name of the hospital and the room’s number where their son is now. After bow down and said our gratitude words, the two of us immediately went out and  stopped any taxi that we found at the junction. It took some times to reach there but as soon as the taxi stopped, we quickly stormed out and got into the hospital building. We took a few minutes to search the room before we finally managed to find it. Then, Sho lightly knocked the door.

“Come in.”

We heard a weak voice from inside.  When Sho slowly turned the knob and entered the room with me behind, the two guys’ expression change immediately.

“We’re so sorry for suddenly come and disturbing. You guys are Kazunari-kun’s friends, am I right?” Sho asked while I closing the door behind us for some privacy.

“Yeah.” One of them replied with his eyes still stared us in disbelieve. He’s sitting on the patient’s bed which made me realize immediately that he must be the son of the husband and wife before.

“We’ve seen each other before but never greet properly. My name is Miyamoto Jun and this is my friend, Sakurai Sho. Pleased to meet you guys.”
“Ah, same with us too. I’m Ohno Satoshi, Just call me Satoshi.”
“I’m Aiba Masaki. You guys can call me Masaki.”

The four of us awkwardly bowed toward each other. Few seconds elapsed before I finally managed to open my mouth.

“I believe you guys already know what was happening to Kazu last night. AndSatoshi-kun, you’re also there it happened right?”

He nodded. I noticed that his face looked a bit exhausted; perhaps couldn’t sleep after the last night incidentlike me.

“Ah, have a seat first.”

Sho and I nodded before came to sit on the chairs beside Masaki-kun’s bed.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but why are you guys here?”
“I’ll say it straightforwardly. We actually want to discuss with you guys about what was happening to my twins last night. I believe that we can do something if we find the way together in this matter.”

Satoshi-kun and Masaki-kun immediately turned to look at each other. They then immediately brought their gaze back to us with full of hope eyes.

“We’re going to do anything for him.”
“That's great. Firstly, we need to frame the situation last night. Do you know anything about what happened, Satoshi-kun?”
We’re about to come out from the building. But when Kazunari opened the door, the police suddenly pushed him inside and grabbed his guitar. That’s when they found the drugs inside it and drag him along with them.”
“At that time, who else is there instead of the two of you?”
“No one. Just the two of us.”

I frowned immediately.

That is weird.

“Are you sure that there’s only the two of you there last night?”
“Yes.”

I crossed my arms in front of my chest with my forehead still wrinkling.

“What’s wrong, Jun?”
“No, I just thinkit’s kind of weird. Let’s say if a drugs dealer was the one who hides it inside the guitar case to avoid from got caught, don’t you think it’s weird if he just left the building without any intention to take it back? Selling drugs can make tons of profit after all.”
“Maybe he was panic? The police are supposed to be suspecting him too if he was there, so he took his leave.”
“But… why he needs to hide it in there? After all, the building must have lots of room or rubbish bin for him to hide it right? Even if he wants to hide his drugs, just left it inside Kazunari’s guitar is unreasonable.”
“I think it’s because he wants to avoid from the police tracking him. If the drugs been hiding inside the building, he won’t look so suspicious even the police bump into him outside especially when there’s someone who can ‘bear’ with his sins is inside the building.”

The dead end made Masaki-kun sighs in frustration.

“But actuallyeven though we found what the reason is, there’s no way we can find the criminal anyway. Now we should think about how to prove that Kazu is not guilty in this matter.”

I saw Satoshi-kun and Masaki-kun nodded. But then, Sho suddenly brought his face up to Kazu’s friend beside him.

“Satoshi-kun, were the police asked whether Kazunari-kun has that thing with him or just suddenly arrested and checked him?”
“No. They just pushed him inside before one of the cops shouted to check inside his guitar case.”

I immediately turned to Sho.

“You know something?”
“It’s pretty weird. How come the police knew that inside it's full with drugs?”

His answer clicked something in the three of us. Yeah. Sho was indeed right.

“And if they immediately arrest Kazunari-kun when both him and Satoshi-kun almost came out together from the building last night, why they didn’t feel suspicious whether Satoshi-kun had anything to do with the drugs or not? After all, there are just the two of them left inside there.”

None of us said anything. I can see that everyone tried to look for the best reason to solve the pieces of confusion that we’re facing now.

Does it means, someone purposely accused him?”

Sho and Satoshi-kun turned to him. I meanwhile immediately brought my gaze down while biting hardly my lower lip.

But for what he did it? Cause he feel jealous with Kazu? Or cause he holds a deep grudge on Kazu? And even it’s so, why that person really hates him? I knew that Kazu was a bit harsh back then, but to accuse him is too much. And I believe no one dared to make a problem with him since people were a bit terrified with his manner even until now.

I immediately wiped my face with my palms; completely depressed by it. As I let out a heavy sigh, Satoshi-kun gave me a pat on my back.

“Calm down. I believe we can find the solution if we didn’t feel so bother with our upset and depression feelings. Kazunari is waiting for us to help him.”
“I’m scared if he already lost his heart.”
Lost his heart?”

I nodded.

“Last night, I saw his eyes look like he’s going to give up. But as long as he didn’t say that those drugs are his, the police will only arrest him inside the cell. Just…”
Just?”

I grasped my hands worriedly.

“I-I hate to say this, but I’m afraid if he is going to admit that those drugs are his cause…”

Oh, God.

“There’s nothing else we can do after that.”

~*~*~*~

Oh, crap. How I’m hoping the inspector in front of me will stop from kept shouting on me or at least, repeating a same question again and over again. This f*ckin’ old man is SO demanding that could make me lost my patience ANYTIME soon.

“SPILL IT OUT!”

However, I just snorted furiously on my chair. Didn’t he feel tired for keeping doing that since yesterday for God’s sake?!

“How many times you want me to say it?! I’ve NOTHING to do with it AT ALL!”

He suddenly slammed hardly the table; trying to ‘attack’ me in a psychological way. Then, he grabbed a picture on the table between us and shoved it right in front my eyes me for almost 10 times since last night.

“Then, who’s guitar in this picture?!”

Oh, please! DIDN’T I HAVE ALREADY SAID IT TIMELESSLY, YOU DEAF OLD MAN?!

“It’s indeed mine! BUT I have no idea how the drugs get inside it!” I replied him, impatiently.

Actually, it is Nishikido’s, but since I know they’re going to involve him if I spilled it out, I chose for not admitting it.

“OWH, C’MON! JUST ADMIT THOSE DRUGS ARE YOURS!!! WE’VE FOUND THE PROOF ALREADY!!!”

I just bitterly chuckled.

“If you’ve found the proof, why don’t just throw me into the jail then?!!!” my sarcastic shout echoed inside there, followed by a sudden grab on my shirt by him.

“DON’T MESS WITH ME!”

He then beamed me with his deathful glare.

“NOW, ANSWER ME! THOSE DRUGS ARE YOURS, RIGHT?!”

Losing my patience, I immediately slapped hardly his hands away before gave a hard kick to the table in front of us to the other side.

“And I said; IT WASN’T MINE!!!”
“FINE! THROW THIS BRAT INTO THE CELL TILL HE ADMITS HIS CRIME!”

Immediately, the other two cops there came and harshly grabbed my arms. As they cuffed my hands, I didn’t show any protest at all but angrily returned the glare that I received from the old inspector in front.

“No matter how you're going to threaten me, I will NEVER admit something that I’ll NEVER EVER did!!!”

I furiously gritted my teeth when he just chuckled. Bullsh*t! Now I’m extremely wanting to punch your annoying face!

“Listen here, BIG boy!”

He then smiled at me smugly.

“There’s NO WAY I’m going to believe what you’re saying! After all, I still remember your face since you’re always creating problems at your school before!  So, you deserve to have this punishment!”

Deserve? F*ck the hell up!

“Don’t think that I’m still the same guy! Plus, you do know nothing about my life and what was happening back then! So, don’t talk like you really know about me!”
“Just shut the funny joke up! I DO know what kind of guy like you! You’re someone who just knows how to burden others with the stupid thing that you’ve done! You ARE everyone’s burden!”

I swallowed hardly.

Burden. That’s what dad and teachers always thought about me.

“Even though you’re alive, you’re just causing trouble to your family and people around! SO, you DESERVE to through this!”

My heart felt like being stabbed deathly by his words.

The two cops beside me then immediately grabbed me out from the interrogation room. One of them led the way while the other cop behind was gripping on my arm to make sure I won’t do anything.

However, I didn’t bother with it at all. The inspector’s words really left a deep impact inside me till couldn’t say or even think anything at all. My mind now is completely blank.

PITCH BLANK.

“Get inside.” He said as we finally reached a cell and opened the handcuff on my wrist.

Slowly, I stepped inside it. I blankly turned around when they started to lock the cell before finally walked away and disappeared from the gloomy corridor.

“Even though you’re alive, you’re just causing trouble to your family and people around! SO, you DESERVE to through this!”

I tightly grasped my hands.

Why people love to keep telling me that? Am I really not deserves to smile? Am I really can’t lead a better life? And...

Am I a real burden for others?

As I finally realized that was useless for me to stand like fool there, I slowly stepped to the corner of the cell. I then leant on the wall before sat on the floor while biting my lower lip hardly.

With a small thud, I lightly knocked my head on the wall beside.

I know that I should put my faith on Aiba, Ohno and maybeJun too. But… wasn’t it is already proven that I’m just a burden for them? Plus, the police might be thinking that they’re involved in this and dragged them to accompany me here if they tried to lend their help on me.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

It is weird but… somehow I can’t cry or even feel depressed with any possibilities that I could face after this. I can’t feel anything at all. My heart now is completely cold.

Empty.

And hopeless.

Being stubborn means will make people around me get a lot of troubles with what they should do in order to help me free. So, that means I am a burden.

Thenif my existence will just lead a trouble to others, I really have no right to live anymore, didn’t I?
