Aiba ran along the crowded side road with all might. Few times he bumped into someone’s shoulder, but it didn’t bother him to stop and just kept on running to the place that had been mentioned in the message he received from his aunt before. Soon, he saw from a far the house which he and his younger brother were growing at; crowd with numbers of people in black suits and dress.

“Masaki!”

Aiba immediately turned to the caller. As his aunt hurriedly came to approach him, Aiba tried to regulate back his breath.

“I thought you’re still on mission.”

“They let me came home earlier. Where’s he?”

He saw his aunt bit her lower lip. As his aunt brought her gaze to the opened door, Aiba immediately stormed into the house. He however stopped when he heard sound of chanted and prayed echoed inside there. Slowly, he stepped further inside the small house’s corridor until he stood in front of the wide open living room paper doors.

“…Why?”

Aiba almost fell on knees, but his relates who were coincidently nearby managed to catch him on time. They were about to bring him to another room, but stopped when they saw he weakly shook his head.

“I need…to say goodbye.”

With helped from his uncle, Aiba slowly got up and walked to the motionless body which was laid in front of its altar. Every pair of eyes there moved together with each Aiba’s stepped; full with sympathy and sorrow. They knew how close the young man was with his late younger brother no matter how rarely Aiba stayed at home. Compared to Aiba’s younger brother job as a part time worker in a convenience store, all people there were actually more worried with Aiba’s volunteer job as sometimes he needed to go to the country which currently having war or lacking of food problem. Though it’s indeed true that no one can predict someone’s death, for them the younger one was passed away too soon. Even the way of he died was too tragic. He was beaten by group of thugs who tried to rob the store he was working at before got shot as he was by chance worked in morning shift alone.

“We even didn’t go out for a meal together yet. You said you’ll look forward on it…right?”

He curved with a bitter smile as he knelt next to his brother’s coffin. With tears slowly damped his sweaty face because of the long ran, he tremblingly reached for the pale cheek and caressed it gently. One by one people there started to leave the place when they couldn’t watch the heartbreaking scene any longer. It was too pain to hear every single word that Aiba uttered. Soon, Aiba tremblingly looked up at his uncle who was quietly stood not far behind him since while ago.

“Did the police found out who did this?”

He bit his lower lip hardly when he received a shook head.

“But…your brother was holding this necklace when his body was found.”

His uncle took something from his inner suit before left it on Aiba’s palm. There’s a symbol of something like an arrow attached on it with a letter, but Aiba’s brain was too shocked to digest it. The only thing he can do just grip it tightly with tears flew down swiftly from the corner of his eyes. For a while, his mind was completely blank to care about what was happened around him until his aunt came to approach them.

“Dear, this young man came to pay his respect.”

Both of them immediately turned around and saw a guy bowed at them. Aiba’s uncle also followed the guy to bow down, but Aiba’s mind still couldn’t digest anything and just blankly looked up; returning the other one sad gaze.

“What’s your name, young man?”

“I’m…Matsumoto Jun.”

Aiba’s eyes snap open by the sudden flashback. With his hand hold on his stomach and his mouth burst with another cough, he tries to sit on the road but fail when someone suddenly stomps on his back hardly.

“You’re not only deaf, but crazy for suddenly came to attack us alone.”

The thug seems to piss off as he harshly wipes the blood on the corner of his mouth. He and his gang were while ago doing some ruckus on an abandon car that they found on the road when Aiba suddenly comes and punches him hardly on face. Fortunately, the rest of his friends immediately come to help him from been killed by the mad deaf guy.

“MURDERER!”

“Oh? You know how to talk? Impressive!”

Aiba angrily grits his teeth when he notices those guys above him are laughing. Soon, another thug there harshly grabs his bang; makes him let a small wail by it. As he returns the cynical gaze above him with a glare, he sees the guy says something.

“So, mind to tell why you call us murderer? Or you want us to prove it right here?”

“Hey, he can’t hear you, idiot.”

And they burst with another laugh. Mad by it, Aiba immediately reaches for the thug’s hand, harshly pulls him closer before gives a hard blow on face. Sighting it, the rest of the thugs there get furious immediately. Unexpectedly, the deaf guy doesn’t stop. He just suddenly moves to attack anyone nearby him which makes those thugs in panic state for a while as they don’t expect Aiba can be that strong after numerous blows they give him. The fight however doesn’t go long when two of the gang members manage to catch and stop him by hook their arms around his neck, body and arms. It however couldn’t make the deaf guy stop until another thug there suddenly aims his gun right to Aiba’s head.

“Now, this exactly makes us remember with the robbery’s incident few months ago.”

The thug says between his pant. Understand his words; Aiba angrily tries to fight against the hold around him again.

“YOU GUYS ARE MURDERER!!! YOU KILLED MY BROTHER!!!”

While Aiba tries to make them release of him, those thugs turn to look at each other. They soon startle when their victim suddenly succeeds on freeing himself and starts to attack their gang members again. Seeing his people in trouble, the gun holders accurately aims his gun on Aiba’s head again.

“STOP NOW OR I’LL BLOW OFF YOUR HEAD!”

“He can’t hear it! Just shoot him!”

The thug tightens his hold around his gun immediately. As he hears his people cheering him to pull the trigger, he curves with a smirk.

“Say hello to your brother over there.”

A shot sound and Aiba’s blood dirty the road under them in a second.

“…Crap.”

Ohno tiredly leans on the light pole nearby. As he moves his hand to his temple and massages it, he furiously grits his teeth. It such a bad timing for having a high fever now, but he is not going to stop. Not until they survive.

“The phone is the reason why the Shinigami can track them. I should tell them to throw it away after this.”

“Unfortunately, it’s not. The fire mark is the reason why we as the Shinigami can track our apprentice. It’s also the same reason why I can come immediately whenever you’re in danger. The phone maybe can be a dangerous device if they use it to call someone as their Shinigami can listen on what they’re talking about, but without it they maybe can’t save their life too. It’s 50-50 situation, but better than nothing.”

Ohno grits his teeth hardly and stressfully close his eyes. Just when he thought they finally have a chance to survive and he completely understands everything about the dangerous game, it suddenly back to square. He then let out a heavy sigh before forces himself to get up. Unfortunately, he feels his world is spinning again and the feel of his burning body makes it worse.

“Just if I’d their number…”

Soon, he hears sound of gunshot comes from the city. Totally forgetting about his sickness, Ohno immediately drags his feet from there as fast as he can; praying no one was injured by the shot sound.

“Aiba-san!”

Jun worriedly runs while screaming for the older one; completely forget about the latter’s deafness. His eyes wonder for every single inch of his surroundings as he afraid he might miss Aiba looking by how dark the city now. He walks for another couple of minutes before he found a familiar figure is lying motionless on the road not far from him.

“Aiba-san!”

Quickly, he approaches the deaf guy. As he lifts Aiba’s head a bit and gives few gentle slaps on face, he notices something is dripping on the ground from the latter’s head. Immediately, he moves his hand from hold Aiba’s head and uses the other one to support the latter’s neck instead. However, he feels like his heart suddenly stops by the sight of blood pool on his hand. Clumsily, he brings his gaze back to the pale guy under him and lightly shakes the other one’s body.

“You’re…okay right?”

No movement.

“Aiba-san? Come on. It just few more hours to go.”

His fingers tremble hardly. Again and again, he tries to make the cold body wakes up, but no matter what, he even can’t see any movement on Aiba’s chest at all. Jun could feel his eyes become teary before tears slowly flow down to his cheek.

“Guard properly. Tell us if intruders are coming, got it?”

“Roger.”

He then watched his ‘friend’ left him alone in the winding street. The street was actually usually crowded with people, but as it was office, even sound of footsteps can’t be heard. For Jun, it was always like that. He will be told to watch for any sign of cops which they call as intruders and informed the rest immediately when he saw one. Normally, all what they’re doing only like damage the public property or painted some ‘mural’ on wall or politician posters, but on that day, Jun never thought his gang will go far beyond it.

“Alright! We’re finished here!”

Immediately, Jun straightened his body from leant on the wall behind him. He frowned when the guys in front him were panting.

“What’s wrong?”

One of the guys immediately showed him a bag of cigarette cases, snacks, beverages and few bills of money. Surprise by it, he almost moved to approach, but stopped when he noticed trail of blood on some of their hands and shirts.

“What happened to you guys?”

“We’ve no time to explain. Let’s leave before someone enters the store.”

“What?”

Quickly, the rest run from there. Jun on the other hand frowned by the word ‘store’ that those guys mentioned ago. For a while, he just silently looked at the way where his friends were coming from with his brain tried to find for the relation between those guys behavior and what he’d hear and see on them.

‘Don’t tell me-!’

He looked up and heard his friends called calling for him with panic faces. However, Jun didn’t come to them, but hurriedly ran to the only convenience store in the neighborhood. As he entered it, he noticed there’s no worker working behind the counter, what more any voice of welcoming their customers. He soon saw droplets of blood on the store’s floor and slowly followed it; hoped for the worst thing that he concluded his friends did wouldn’t become a reality. Unfortunately, he later found a pair of legs showed behind of the payment counter.

“Are you okay?!”

Worriedly, he shook the bloody body on the floor. Seeing no trace of the guy will wake up soon, Jun immediately took out his phone and called for the ambulance. After told the detail of the place, he quickly flipped closes his phone and tried to find for the source of the blood until he saw a gunshot wound on the guy’s left chest. Quickly, he took off his jacket and used it to cover the wound before gave hard pushed on it to stop the bleeding. It however didn’t work even until he heard siren sound approached the place.

Jun sighs by the memory. Indeed the cops arrest him after he told them what was happened, but they didn’t manage to look for his gang as he knew they’re really good when it came about hiding. Finally, the cops made a deal with him. As the exchange if Jun agree to help them for looked for the rest gang members, they will free him with all his past crime will be removed. After all, he wasn’t guilty in that case and those two months in cell include the time when they let him to visit Aiba’s younger brother funeral already more than enough to redeem for the damage on public properties he had done before. All of sudden, Jun heard another gunshot sound; followed by a long howl.

“The scum really went too far this time.”

Carefully, he places Aiba back on the ground. After takes a look at the cold body for the last time, he furiously grits his teeth and stomps angrily to the place where he hears sound of guys’ laughing coming from. Few months ago, he supposed to get along with them, did a lot of ruckus in neighborhood and made stupid stuff together. But now, he regretted all of it. He knew he can’t go back to past for fix what was happened, but at least he realize he just made a right decision to leave his gang.

“Bark more, stupid dog!”

The group of thugs laughed amusingly while step on the poor dog under them. The dog is bleeding; probably because of the gunshot before. Jun meanwhile silently approaches one of the thugs from behind. As he manages to snatch a metal pipe from one of them, he used it to knock out the still shock guy in front him immediately.

“Jun?!”

“How come?!”

“I bet that bastard I just knocked out before hasn’t waked up yet, huh?”

They frown. Jun however takes that chance to defeat them one by one. With a lot of experienced in fighting stuff, Jun has no problem to struggle alone though he is surrounding by his former gang. No more ‘friendship’ in his eyes now, but a hateful gaze.

“Why traitor like you suddenly try to kill us? That wound is still not enough for you?”

“Is it easy to take someone life just like that?”

The leader’s gang smile.

“Deciding someone’s death maybe in our side I guess. Like God, right?”

The gang leader’s words make Jun tightens the grip around his metal pipe. Beyond his expectation, someone suddenly runs toward him from behind and grips on his shoulder to make him turn around. As soon as he stands face to face with the sudden attacker behind, a sharp knife stabs his stomach. Jun can hear sound of his blood dripping on the ground before slowly, he feels like his world suddenly turn to black.

From several minutes ago, Sho keep forcing himself to continue on walk. Gradually, he feels his breath become irregular and his legs are shivering of tiredness, but he doesn’t dare to stop even for catch a quick breathe as he realizes his Shinigami is still following him not far behind with creepy smirk. Unexpectedly, the spectacles Shinigami still doesn’t take any act to make Sho die on spot.

Reminiscing your past, Sakurai-san?

Sho doesn’t answer, but furiously grits his teeth.

He actually supposed to settle his first task of his dreaming job on that day. It was a meeting with his first client, but he was being late for more than 15 minutes. Indeed he was lucky enough for got accepted to work in share field, what more in a company with a good background. That’s why he felt so stupid for caused a trouble to himself on his first day of working.

“I’m sorry for make you waiting.”

Sho said it between pant as he finally stood at the other side of the coffee table that his client was waiting at. As his client looked up at him, Sho bowed down before immediately took out his business card and gave it to the lady who maybe in her 40’s.

“I’m terribly sorry!”

For the second time, he bowed at the women; much lower than before while closed tightly his eyes. Soon, he heard giggled sound from the other one and slowly looked up.

“It’s fine. How about you’ve sit and breath properly now?”

Sho nodded and slowly moved to sit in front of the lady. After ordered cups of coffee for himself and the lady, he opened his briefcase and took out few papers from inside it. He was about to give it to the lady when the lady slowly looked down and shook her head.

“I’m sorry, but I’m actually not so much familiar with buying shares stuff. I do this because my friends suggest it.”

Don’t you think you’re tricking a lot of people who you call as clients before, Sakurai-san?

The Shinigami’s words really make him psychologically tired.

You’re such a liar, huh?

“SHUT UP!”

Sho blinked couple times by the client’s words. He however slowly curved with a smile when he noticed there’s no sign for the lady to look up. Immediately, he arranged the papers in his hands by order and looked at the lady again.

“It’s fine. I’ll explain if there’s anything you don’t understand.”

The lady returned his gaze.

“Firstly, why you want to give a try on buy a share?”

“…My son wants to further his study in University. He loves chemistry so much, but since I’ve not enough money to pay for his study, I asked for my friends’ opinion about it. They told me to buy a share from your company because it’ll give high return.”

The share worker smiled by it.

“You’re really doing your best for your son.”

The lady nodded happily.

You took advantage on her kindness for her son

“I told you to shut up!”

However, the Shinigami just chuckles amusingly. Angrily, Sho immediately makes his pace faster to anywhere as long as the Shinigami will stop from stalking him. His steps later stop by a sudden sound of gunshot from few buildings from his place.

It’s the second shot sound for tonight

‘It’s not far from here…’

Sho starts to feel panic. For a while, he thinks with what he should do. He soon found a metal stairs that lead to the rooftop of the building in front him. Quickly, he climbs it up and heads up as fast as he can. It however couldn’t make him feel better at all as the spectacles Shinigami still follows him from behind; smirking endlessly like he knows what is going to happen to the apprentice later.

I’m just killing my time all this time. Let see if you’re that desperate to stay live

His words give unpleasant feeling to the survivor.

Game over.

Sho turns around immediately. Surprise by the Shinigami’s sudden face in front him; he accidently slips, causing his back to hit the metal holder behind. Unfortunately, the metal doesn’t tough like it looks. It couldn’t support Sho’s weight and the rusting from some important part of it makes the holder yank out. A second later, sound of something falls on the road below of the building echoes around there.

He didn’t take so much time to give a brief explanation to the lady. Finally felt confident with her decision to buy a share, the client politely took one of the papers that Sho brought for her. As she read carefully the paper, Sho moved to take a sip of his coffee. Soon, he immediately placed it back and chuckled on his own foolishness.

“I’m sorry. I haven’t asked your name yet, ma’am.”

The lady looked up and followed him to chuckle.

“I’m Ninomiya.”

Sho emptily blinks. It makes sense now. However, he couldn’t move even a single finger of his anymore. His body just motionless lay on the road with blood feel like flowing down from his back head. He never realizes the job that he thought will help someone will finally lead to a huge disaster in their life. Later, tears flow down from his eyes.

Nino was in his way to go home after finished with his part time job. With a plastic bag of dinner ingredients in his hold, he calmly walked back like usual. Just when he was about to reach few meters more with his house, he saw some of his neighbors stood not far from the gate entrance. He frowned when he realized they’re whispering to each other with a worried look on his house. Immediately, he ran to them.

“What’s wrong?”

“Ah, Kazunari-kun. Did your mother borrow money from the loan sharks?”

“Huh? No.”

All of sudden, he heard a loud angry shout from inside of his house.

“I don’t care! Make sure you pay us soon!”

And few men in black clothes came out. Felt worry with his mother’s current condition, Nino quickly stormed into the house and looked for her. Soon, he found his mother sat on piles of papers inside the living room while trembling hardly. As soon as his mother realized his presence there, her tears flew down. Immediately, Nino ran and hugged her reassuringly.

“I’m sorry…”

“What happen?”

His mother didn’t say anything anymore. Even two years already passed after that incident, Nino still couldn’t find the reason of the sudden interrupt by the same guys into their house sometimes. Though he already demanded his mother to say something, his mother just smiled and keep telling him to study hard and don’t forced his body so much. One night, his mother suddenly knocked his room’s door when he’s studying for a University exam’s entrance. He took few years for working to save some money so he can concentrate more in study in case he pass the exam, so now this is his only chance.

“What’s wrong, mom?”

He waited for his mother to say something when she sat silently on his bed. A moment later, she gave him a bank’s account book.

“Use it wisely, okay?”

Nino frowned by the older one weird behavior. He then opened the book and surprised by the number on it.

“I know it’s not enough to pay for your study, but do your best there, okay?”

The son however just chuckled and returned it back.

“I can work on it by myself. Plus, it is better if you’re the one who in charge in handling this, mom. You’re doing better when it comes about taking care of our house’ financial rather than me, right?”

His mother however just shook her head.

“All on you after this.”

At first, he didn’t understand what the meaning of his mother’s words was. Two days later, he came home like usual and found the front area of his house full with his neighbors. They told him that the family from the next house saw his mother laid on the living room suspiciously. Unfortunately, at the time they get into the house, his mother already passed away. Not long after his mother’s funeral, Nino found out about the share that his mother bought which can gave a good return of money if it succeeded. The insurance from his mother’s death fortunately could cover her debt after she borrowed a lot of money from the loan sharks as she believed she’ll definitely gained any  profit from the share. However, Nino noticed about the weirdness of the company that his mother was buying the share from. Attempted to find for the truth, he gave up from furthering his study and choose to become a teacher. The job unexpectedly gave him more information about the company as some of his students’ parents also faced the same trouble like his late mother; incur losses and need to settle a huge amount of debt.

Full of angriness, he kicks anything nearby with all might. He can’t believe he just get along with one of the workers from the company. All this time he aims to destroy the share agency, but he never has any proof to make it happen. Somehow, he feels stupid for not let Sho die instantly for losing ton of blood before.

‘And now, I’ve no choice but struggle alone.’

He sighs stressfully. Finally, he stops in front of a wide open hatch as he steps inside of a construction place. As he shoves his hand into his pocket and decides if he should turns around or not, he frowns by something inside his pocket. Immediately, he takes it out and found a phone.

“This is…Aiba-san’s phone.”

Now he remembers. He doesn’t manage to return it to the deaf guy before.

‘I should look for him. He probably in danger now.’

Unexpectedly, someone suddenly push him hardly from behind; makes him accidently let go of the phone and falls into the hatch. As soon as he inside it, he feels water’s surface harshly hit his face. He can feel cold water surround him.

‘Water tank?’

He opens his eye as he finally realizes where he is exactly inside now.

It is 3 meters deep. You wouldn’t found the bottom of the tank

Nino clumsily looks up and sees his Shinigam’s blur face above. As he tries his best to swim back to the water’s surface, the old Shinigami just let an amusing chuckle out before closes the hatch; trapping Nino inside the dark tank with ton of water filling it. Panicky, the eye patch guy tries his best to push the lid open, but the more he do it, the more out of breath he feels. Deep inside, he curses himself for accidently leaves Aiba’s phone outside.

This is the most slow and painful way of death, right?

Hearing that, Nino furiously hits the closed hatch. It however causes the Shinigami to curve with a smirk before leaves him to drowning inside it, slowly and full of pain.
