Chapter 13: The bittersweet of life
For the nth time, I saw the chief was looking at me again. I knew that he still feel worried if I’m going to collapse anytime soon when he saw my bandaged head this morning. He was actually didn’t want to let me lift any heavy load today, but because of my stubbornness, he finally sighed in defeat.
“Chief, let me help you.” I said as I immediately made my move toward him. The size of the box that he was carrying is no joking!
“I can do it, son. You just have some rest.”
I however didn’t reply it, but lent my help without waiting for his permission. The chief just sighed from other side of the brown box.
“This is the last one and after that we will get back to the store.”
And with all our might, we carefully lifted it and climbed the 3 storey apartment. Along the way we kept counting three, two, and one to avoid us from stepped on each other foot. Maybe it sounds funny, but it works. And it’s another new lesson I got from this job; don’t be rushed in doing something.
“We need to put here ma’am?” I heard the chief ask when we already got into the small apartment again.
“Just put it down. I’ll do it by myself later.”
Then, I heard the chief told me to put it slowly together with him. As both of us finally stood up again, the customer let out a gasp.
“What happens to your head, boy? Is it okay?”
I shook my head with a slight smile. Was it looked so bad?
“Wait for me in the truck. I need to discuss with the customer first.” The chief suddenly said, followed with a nod from me.
Slowly, I climbed down the stairs. Just when I was about to get inside the truck, I saw a couple were holding hands with a little girl between them. Anyone could tell how happy the little girl is looking by the huge smile on her face.
“Where are we heading to for our dinner?”
“You will know it later soon, my dear.”
The little girl jumped happily by the lady’s words who I believed was her mom.
“It had been a long time since we have our last dinner outside together!”
“Feel excited?”
“Un!”
For a while, my eyes didn’t leave them at all.
I wonder what the boy that I met at the hospital yesterday was going to say if he saw it. Will he cry? Will he rant? Or will he not say anything at all?
Then, I brought my gaze away from kept staring at them.
How long since the last time I had my last dinner together with dad, mom and Jun? I guessed…more than 3 years. After all, dad was always busy with his work. And mom always got home early only after Jun moved back with us.
… But after Jun moved back too, I was starting to quit from having my dinner at home. I even already forget the taste of mom’s cook.
Now I realized.
My heart was actually…empty and cold.
“Let’s us move now.”
I jerked up and immediately turned to my back.
“Oh, okay.” I said as I got into the passenger’s seat. Chief on the other hand moved to the driver’s seat before starting to drive us away from there.
Along the time however, I felt extremely weird as an awkward silence suddenly surrounded both of the chief and me. Well, usually the chief will non-stopped talking about his life, youth and so on. But now…
There must be something happened.
“Son.”
He finally said something when the traffic light changed to red. “I will close this company when the summer holiday starts next week.”
“Eh?”
“My parents are sick. So, no one is going to take care of their crops.”
“But how about your family? Plus, you build this company with your own effort right?”
“I will bring them along with me of course. And I will sell my company to my friends…even though I still have no idea what he is going to do with it.”
He then returned my still surprise gaze.
“I will tell the other staffs about this later. I know it is too sudden, but I don’t know how to explain about this to you guys before.”
Both of us immediately turned to the front again when the green light finally changed to green again.
“I’m sorry to say this but…you need to look for other job.”

After stepping out from taking my bath, I immediately headed back to the room. As I got in there, I just sat on my bedside and left my towel around my neck. The chief’s words really bothered me since I came out from the store. Even the workers there looked so upset when he announced about the closing of the company soon.
I sighed.
Just when I thought that I can ask for the wardens’ permission to stay at the dorm during the entire summer due to my part time job, the company suddenly will be closed down. The wardens will not let me live here if I have no good excuse or reasons to give them.
I then wiped my face with both my palms.
Crap. I don’t know what I should do anymore.
“What’s wrong?” I startled by Aiba’s voice beside me.
Eh? How long he had been here?
“I keep hearing you sighing since you came back from your work. Your face even looks so depressed when you stepped in before.”
So he was always here all the time, huh?
“Nothing.” I shortly replied even though I know it won’t make a never-give-up guy like Aiba will feel satisfied with it. But like hell I will tell him about it.
Suddenly, he tapped my shoulder that made me immediately turned to him.
“Huh?” And I frowned by his sudden puffed-up cheeks with squint eyes beside me.
What the heck-face he is trying to do?
I was still wrinkling my forehead when he suddenly pinched his cheeks, trying to pull it as long as he can before purposely sticking out his tongue.
“Huh?!”
Not enough of it, he then suddenly released his cheeks and pushed his nose upside, showing his nostrils without his eye’s pupil showing off.
Immediately, I backed off with my super surprise face. What’s wrong with this guy seriously?!
“What are you-!” But I stopped when he finally stopped making that face.
I was thinking that he was going to cut with his crappy ‘work’ when he suddenly looked at me with an angry gaze. But beyond my expectation, he then suddenly lowered his jaw; totally reminded me with his expression in the karaoke place two days ago.

“You finally laugh out again! Oh YEAAHHHHHH!!!!”
He then immediately lifted his fist in the air when he saw I finally burst with my hard-like-rock laughed. I meanwhile couldn’t hold off my laughed till I almost died because of ran out of oxygen.
This bastard idiot!!!
“What are you doing, idiot.” I said when I finally able to breathe again.
“Laugh can make you feel better, you know. So, laugh, laugh, and laugh more.” And he beamed his cheerful smile at me.
Wow. This guy, really…I’d no idea what to say anymore.
Then, he suddenly laid his arm around my shoulders.
“Do you have any plan this summer break?”
Well, I supposed to but not anymore.
“Nope.”
He suddenly slid closer.
“Then do you want to come and work at my family’s place?”
I turned to him immediately.
“Your family’s place?”
“Yep. My family manages a beach restaurant and it was really-extremely busy during summer since a lot of people will come to the beach. So, we are looking for extra workers now.”
“Really?”
“Yep. I just asked Satoshi this morning and he said he wants to ‘join da’ club’. Means, you must come and join us too!”
“But where we are we going to stay at?”
“Of course at my house! Well, I mean…my family’s house. But it doesn’t matter! Just come along! I believe it will be an unforgettable summer if I have both of you and Satoshi there!”
Hmm…seem it’s a good idea.
“Plus, we don’t want to leave you stay all alone by yourself here. So…kay?” He asked with his already begging eyes.
Well, not a bad idea though.
“Okay.”
“YEAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!” And he immediately hugged me TIGHTLY.

All of a sudden, the door was pushed open; showing Ohno’s questioning face.
“What happen? Why are you so excited, Masaki?”
“Kazunari is coming with us, Satoshi! YEAYYYYYYYY!!!”
“You are so noisy! The next dorm is going to be angry if you won’t stop!” I said while trying to make him let go of me.
“Ah, don’t worry about it. They’re used with it already.”
Ohno steadily said it which made Aiba creep with another wide smile.
“The doctor is ready to leave. So, I think it’s better for us to go and see him now to change for your new bandage.”
I immediately looked up to return his concern face above me.
Somehow, I feel so grateful for having both of them on my side now.
“Yup.”
~*~*~*~I slightly opened my still fresh eyes and look at Aiba’s clock beside me.
1.30 In the morning.
With a sigh, I slowly sat up and scratched my messy head. It was already the thrice times I got awakened tonight. And the view all around the room was still in a dark state.
As I hardly lay on my back on the bed again, I let out another heavy sigh in my breath. Obviously, I can’t sleep not because I already have an enough sleep today or because I was drinking ton cups of coffee but…
Ugh.
I moved my right hand to my chest and grabbed my shirt strongly till I can feel the vein didn’t let my blood to flow through my strong grips anymore.
This feeling of uneasy and hard to breathe…will only occur when Jun was too far away from me. It was exactly same with the one that I was through when he moved to the boarding school three years ago.
“D*mn.” I cursed as low as I can to prevent my dorm mates from woke up.
This is bad. I know that this will be a dreamless night for me based on what I’ve through before.
Harshly, I pulled my blanket up as I realized that I shouldn’t lost with the unbreakable twins’ bond feelings. I then closed my
eyes tightly, hoping it will drift me to sleep.
Another Monday has come.
I went to the school like usual and as early as I can. I always avoid from taking my breakfast so I won’t bump into Jun. After all, he will always stubbornly wanted to walk with me to school.
Just when I passed through the class corridor, the girls immediately backed off to the side. The guys meanwhile made a gross and hatred faces whenever they saw me. Well, I was already used with their treatment. I won’t die by it anyway.
As I slid open my class’s door, everyone immediately silent themselves.
Crap. There must be something happened before I came.
Just when I reached my suppose-to-be-seat, I dropped my bag spontaneously on the floor.
“Where’s my table?” I turned to the person beside me. He didn’t react but looked down.
It however already gave an enough hint for me to know who was behind it. Immediately, I stormed out from the class and headed my step to the place which the teachers always said as the ‘apple in eye’ class. As soon as I stood in front of the door, I harshly slid it open.
The entire insider immediately shuts themselves. They looked so shocked before terrifyingly backed off to the class side for every step I took.
“Kazu? What are you doing here?” I looked at my back and saw Jun and Sho stood right in front of the door. They must be just reached the school. But who cares? They are not the reason why I want to even step inside this sh*tty place anyway.
BAM!
I hit the table hardly. Those guys in front of me meanwhile immediately looked up from looking at their trump cards. For a while, none of us said anything but hatefully glared each other.
“What’s your problem with me?! What the f*ck that make you feel freakin’ dissatisfied with me this entire time?!” I spilled it out angrily. They however suddenly burst out with laughed before threw their trump cards harshly to me.
These f*ckin’ bullsh*t!
“It was our hobbies anyway. Oh, you want your table? Under there, little boy~” he pointed outside the window behind him with his thumb. As soon as I can, I swiftly ran toward the window. There, I saw my table at the garbage site and was upside down.
“Why you guys did that?!” Jun angrily turned to them after he stood beside me and looked at outside.
“Like we said, it's just our hobby. None of your f*ckin’ business right Mr. Prince?”
“You-”
“It’s none of your business! So, just shut the hell up!” I cut Jun immediately. “What are you talking about?! I couldn’t see them treat you like this!”
“I will call for the discipline teacher if you guys don’t apologize to Kazunari-kun and bring it back.”
Oh, so now Sho was trying to be a hero too?
“You guys just mind your own *ss. It has NOTHING to do with both of you.”
All of a sudden, the class echoed with the d*mn bastards laughed.
“C’mon Sakurai-kun. Don’t tell me that you think the teacher will trust this brat? After all he is nothing, but a scum.” And I saw Jun and Sho faces immediately changed. They wanted to say something, but stopped when I suddenly ran and punched the bastard’s mouth.
Wow. Just by a punch and these bastards already that shocked? How funny.
“Well,” I suddenly said. “Since I’m nothing but a scum, you guys are nothing but sh*t.”
Offended by my words, they immediately kicked the table nearby and dragged me into a fight. For a while, the situation suddenly became uncontrollable between me and those numbskulls. Jun and Sho tried to pull me away from them while the other guy students tried to stop the scum. We however just managed to be stopped by the teachers after minutes punching each other. The five scums were dragged to the discipline room. I on the other hand was brought by the teacher to the principal’s room.
“You really went too far this time Miyamoto-kun.” The principal said as the teacher finally took his leave. I meanwhile silently stood still at the center of the room.
“Don’t think because you have a great twin here, you can do anything you want.”
However, ‘the lecture’ stopped by a sudden knock on the door.
“Who’s there?” He asked, sighing. But his face changed to bright immediately when Jun’s face suddenly appeared.
D*mn. What he’s doing here?
“Why are you here Miyamoto-kun?”
“Sir, Kazu is the real victim here, not them. Please don’t punish him.” But Jun’s words got a sigh as replied.
“Miyamoto-kun, he just injured a guy. The guy was even bleeding. If he was the victim, he won’t start the fight at the first place right?”
“It was not like that Sir. The truth is-“
“What is my punishment, Sir?” I cut Jun. Jun meanwhile immediately turned to me with his shocked face.
“Well, you will be suspended for two weeks for injured and creating a mess at school.”
I nodded. But Jun still didn’t want to give up yet.
“But Sir, it was not his fault!”
“It was already decided. Besides, he asked for his punishment. That means he admitted that he was the one who’s wrong in this matter right?”
“Indeed Sir.” Jun in disbelieve looked at me. I however just blankly stared the principal.
I gave up already. After all, no one is going to trust me no matter what I say.
Then, I heard Jun let out a sigh.
“Fine. But let me have half of the punishment, Sir.”
And now, it’s my turned to look at Jun.
“What are you talking about? You have nothing to do with this.”
“Yes I am. I was there, but I didn’t try to stop him at all.”
“Miyamoto-kun, what do you think the teachers will think if I let you? Even your good reputation will ruin.”
“I don’t care.” I heard Jun determinedly said.
No. This is not supposed to be.
“It’s nonsense! I will never let it Miyamoto-kun. You are this school precious diamond!”
“And he is my precious brother. Sir must be understand how important he is to me right?”

“Just for this time, I won’t listen to you!” I startled by Jun’s shout. The principal now felt awry with what decision he should do.
Finally, my punishment was decided. I didn’t get suspended, but the principal told me to lift the table that became the reason of the quarrelled upside down on the school’s field. Jun meanwhile was ordered to get back to his class or I will get a harsher punishment than that. Maybe, some people will think it was a light punishment, but it’s not at all. I need to do it from the bell chimed at the morning till the school’s ended. Not only that, it was actually a rainy season during that time. My arms even cramped because of the heaviness.
After hours stood like a statue there, I finally saw the school’s uniform wearer came out from the school’s building under the heavy rain. But my body already damped. And I can feel my body was shaking hardly because of the coldness.
All of a sudden, I felt the table became lighter and disappeared. Someone just helped me to put it down. I however just finally can see his face clearly when an umbrella suddenly covered the both of us.
“Let’s go home.”

“It’s none of your business! So, just shut the hell up!” I cut Jun immediately. “What are you talking about?! I couldn’t see them treat you like this!”
“I will call for the discipline teacher if you guys don’t apologize to Kazunari-kun and bring it back.”
Oh, so now Sho was trying to be a hero too?
“You guys just mind your own *ss. It has NOTHING to do with both of you.”
All of a sudden, the class echoed with the d*mn bastards laughed.
“C’mon Sakurai-kun. Don’t tell me that you think the teacher will trust this brat? After all he is nothing, but a scum.” And I saw Jun and Sho faces immediately changed. They wanted to say something, but stopped when I suddenly ran and punched the bastard’s mouth.
Wow. Just by a punch and these bastards already that shocked? How funny.
“Well,” I suddenly said. “Since I’m nothing but a scum, you guys are nothing but sh*t.”
Offended by my words, they immediately kicked the table nearby and dragged me into a fight. For a while, the situation suddenly became uncontrollable between me and those numbskulls. Jun and Sho tried to pull me away from them while the other guy students tried to stop the scum. We however just managed to be stopped by the teachers after minutes punching each other. The five scums were dragged to the discipline room. I on the other hand was brought by the teacher to the principal’s room.
“You really went too far this time Miyamoto-kun.” The principal said as the teacher finally took his leave. I meanwhile silently stood still at the center of the room.
“Don’t think because you have a great twin here, you can do anything you want.”
However, ‘the lecture’ stopped by a sudden knock on the door.
“Who’s there?” He asked, sighing. But his face changed to bright immediately when Jun’s face suddenly appeared.
D*mn. What he’s doing here?
“Why are you here Miyamoto-kun?”
“Sir, Kazu is the real victim here, not them. Please don’t punish him.” But Jun’s words got a sigh as replied.
“Miyamoto-kun, he just injured a guy. The guy was even bleeding. If he was the victim, he won’t start the fight at the first place right?”
“It was not like that Sir. The truth is-“
“What is my punishment, Sir?” I cut Jun. Jun meanwhile immediately turned to me with his shocked face.
“Well, you will be suspended for two weeks for injured and creating a mess at school.”
I nodded. But Jun still didn’t want to give up yet.
“But Sir, it was not his fault!”
“It was already decided. Besides, he asked for his punishment. That means he admitted that he was the one who’s wrong in this matter right?”
“Indeed Sir.” Jun in disbelieve looked at me. I however just blankly stared the principal.
I gave up already. After all, no one is going to trust me no matter what I say.
Then, I heard Jun let out a sigh.
“Fine. But let me have half of the punishment, Sir.”
And now, it’s my turned to look at Jun.
“What are you talking about? You have nothing to do with this.”
“Yes I am. I was there, but I didn’t try to stop him at all.”
“Miyamoto-kun, what do you think the teachers will think if I let you? Even your good reputation will ruin.”
“I don’t care.” I heard Jun determinedly said.
No. This is not supposed to be.
“It’s nonsense! I will never let it Miyamoto-kun. You are this school precious diamond!”
“And he is my precious brother. Sir must be understand how important he is to me right?”
“It’s none of your business! So-”
“Just for this time, I won’t listen to you!” I startled by Jun’s shout. The principal now felt awry with what decision he should do.
Finally, my punishment was decided. I didn’t get suspended, but the principal told me to lift the table that became the reason of the quarrelled upside down on the school’s field. Jun meanwhile was ordered to get back to his class or I will get a harsher punishment than that. Maybe, some people will think it was a light punishment, but it’s not at all. I need to do it from the bell chimed at the morning till the school’s ended. Not only that, it was actually a rainy season during that time. My arms even cramped because of the heaviness.
After hours stood like a statue there, I finally saw the school’s uniform wearer came out from the school’s building under the heavy rain. But my body already damped. And I can feel my body was shaking hardly because of the coldness.
All of a sudden, I felt the table became lighter and disappeared. Someone just helped me to put it down. I however just finally can see his face clearly when an umbrella suddenly covered the both of us.
“Let’s go home.”
