Both Aiba and Ohno goes banana by starting to splash water to each other.
Me? Well, I just quietly crouched down on the sand; watching the ‘6 years old kids’ fooling around in front. I thought I will have a calm and good rest when we reach here before, but seems…I’m wrong.
“Aiba!” I shouted loudly to get his attention.
“Yep?”
“Where’s your family?”
“They said they want to do some groceries for celebrate you and Satoshi tonight. They will be here soon.”
I sighed. When we reached here while ago, the restaurant was closed and no one can be found anywhere. Even the beach was looked so quiet and relaxed. After all, today is the first day of summer break anyway.
As I brought my gaze back to the two dumb-happy guys in front of me, I chuckleed.
Day by day, I'm getting closer with them. And out of my awareness, I gradually can let them know my feelings and even laughed whenever they start to come out with any unexpected and weird ideas about study, classmates or anything. Maybe not much, but now I also gradually to get what kind of person both of them are. Sometimes, I wonder how come these two could be a good friend as I don’t see any commonness between them.
“UWA!” And I saw Aiba slipped with his face touched the sea surface first. Both Ohno and I just laughed by his clumsiness act.
…Because of them, I now started to have a short talk with my classmates too. I never even expected that my classmates were going to greet me when they bumped into me in the corridor or outside of school. Furthermore, I started to get along with my band mates now. Everyone was so kind and gladly to lend their ears whenever I spoke out my thought.
Slowly, I curved with a smile while grasp tightly my hand.
“10 minutes break!” And all of us immediately grabbed something for drink. As I thirstily gulping my water down, Nishikido suddenly came and sat beside me.
“You’re awesome! Just about two months and you’re already mastering a lot of songs! I even took so many months to memorizing few songs!”
“A-Ah…” That’s the only word…or maybe letters that came out from my mouth. After all, I’ve never been praised like that before.
“Anyway, where’s our cute vocalist, captain? We have practiced a same song thrice times and she is still not here!”
“Ah! I forgot to tell you guys that she said she needs to go somewhere else before.”
I didn’t pay attention with what both Tanaka and the captain said after that. Seemed they were talking about whether they will do any jamming during the summer holiday later.
BAM!
“Guys!”
The sound of Yui slammed open the studio’s door surprised all of us inside.
“Can’t you behave more like a girl? You’re surprising all of us!”
Immediately, the only girl in our band hardly slapped Tanaka’s head. Nishikido, Ohkura and I meanwhile just laughed by their childish act.
“Captain! We’re going to make a performance during the Rock Wave!”
“WHAT?!” The leader, drummer and keyboarder stood up immediately.
Huh? Rock Wave? What the heck it is?
“You must be kidding me! It is a rare opportunity for a young band like us!”
“I’m not! Take a look at this!”
She then showed them the poster in her hand and pointed at something.
“Our band’s name is included! I can’t believe it!”
“Right?! This is once in life opportunity!”
All of them then cheered happily. I on the other hand just quietly watched them from my seat. After all, I don’t think it has anything to do with me.
“Wasn’t that mean Kazunari-kun will also make his first debut that night?”
“Ah, you’re right!”
“Eh?” I frowned by Ohkura’s words. Immediately, Yui came to me and gives me the poster. For a while, I just blankly stared it as I still didn’t get what they were talking about.
“Congratulations for you guys then.” I said as I gave it back to Yui, followed by Nishikido’s sudden grabbed on my shoulders.
“Hey! It means, you’re going to make AN APPEARANCE as our GUITARIST and will be PERFORMING together with us ON THE STAGE of exclusive jamming event for the FIRST TIME that night! You got it?!”
Huh?
“N-No?” And they let out their sigh together. An appearance? Guitarist? Performing? First time?
…Wait. ON STAGE?
“WHAT?!” Out of my awareness, I suddenly let out a shout. “You guys must be kidding me!”
“It is true and it’ll be two months from now! Finally we can introduce you as our new member!”
No-No way! I can’t believe this!
“And that means…” Nishikido let go of me before turned to all of the members, one by one. “Starting from today, we need to practice more and harder than before. Got it, guys?”
And his answer was replied with a loud cheer from the other three. I meanwhile still can’t believe with what still happened now. My mind still felt like…I have no idea. Dreaming, I guess?
At first I felt a bit worried about it. After all, I’m going to come to Aiba’s place and the performance will take place in the middle of summer.
But when I told both Aiba and Ohno right after I got back from the practice last night, they looked more excited than me. Aiba even said that it won’t be a problem at all since the jamming will be held at night and the restaurant will not be as busy as the day during it. So, her mom will definitely let me go and let both him and Ohno to watch it. But even so, I still can’t attend to our band’s practice as it took time and money to go and head back from Tokyo.
“You’re Kazunari-chan right?!”
A sudden hug from my back immediately jerked me up.
Why this back-sudden-hug feel kind of Déjà vu?
“Uh-err” I almost turned to see who the lady behind was, but Aiba’s voice dragged me into a very shock state.
“Mom!”
“Masa!” And she immediately let go of my body. As both the mom and son ran as fast as they can with their open arms, I let out a snort.
No wonder it felt Déjà vu.
“Stop!”
“Eh?” I saw him confusedly stare at his mother as they only few centimeters with each other.
“You’re all wet. I don’t want to get a cold.”
Ohno and I just laughed. Aiba meanwhile, furiously pouted.
“By the way, that cute guy over there is Kazunari-chan right?”
“Yep!”
She suddenly turned to me with a smile. Clumsily, I stood up and bowed.
“Nice to meet you, aunty.”
“Nice to meet you too. Ah, now I’m concerned about something.” She said while clapping both her hands; showing that she just remembered about something important.
“May I see your scar, Kazunari-chan?”
“Eh? Oh. Yes.”
And Aiba’s mother immediately came and looked closer on my forehead. I on the other hand, immediately moved my bang to give her a better sight.
“Seems the wound was deep even though it wasn’t give any bad impact to his health.”
She nodded. Then, I saw Ohno walked out from the sea and stood right next to Aiba.
“How do you know about it, aunty?”
“Well, of course from Masa-Oh! Long time no see Satoshi-chan!” She ran immediately to Ohno before giving him a bear hug like she hadn’t seen him for quite too long.
“You said you didn’t want to hug me cause I’m all wet! But you hug Satoshi!”
“Well~ having two good looking guys in front of me make me feel younger back~”
Wow. I could see how red Aiba’s face because of it.
“Seems, that’s mean that mom already-” But he abruptly stopped when aunty turned to him immediately with a ‘spill it out and you die’ glare.
“-f-full with youth feelings, h-huh?”
Wow! What a great ‘sudden sentence’ Aiba!
“Of course my son, I’m your mother after all.” She said while slowly release of Ohno’s damp body.
Hmm…rather than saying ‘like father like son’, ‘like mother like son’ is fitter them.
“Ah, I almost forgot. Actually I want you guys to help us bring the groceries stuffs into the kitchen. Come.”

Two months passed like a blink of eyes. Now, I’m capable to communicate with the customers and even introduced them with the foods that I think they would definitely want to try. I gradually love and enjoy working here.
“Table 13!”
“Yap.” And I immediately made my steps while carefully lift the seafood dish. It was a really busy time for us during the lunch as the number of people who come here increasing like a skyrocket.
“Kazunari! Go and take the order for table 1 customers!” I saw the other waiter shouted at me while writing down the order for table 8.
“Coming!”
Crap! I know who I’m going to see there!
I then bit my lower lip hardly; hoping that I could stand with those flirting ‘old’ working ladies there. As I reach that table, I sighed by the scene of three women in front of me.
“Long time no see Kazunari-kun!”
Err…Weren’t you all just came here yesterday?
“Oh, yap. May I take your order, please?” I said while turn my cap to the back so I can see their faces clearly.
“I want you.”
Gross. If you’re not the opposite gender from me, I punched all your faces already!
“Say, are you free tonight?”
Immediately, I shook my head as a reply.
“I’m sorry, but can I take your order please?”
“I said I want you right, Ka-”
“Ah, sorry. We’re not serving ‘you’ here. I’ll come again when you already decided.” And I walked as fast as I can from there.
What a pain on *ss!
Then, someone suddenly patted my shoulder.
“Take it easy. I’ll take their order. You just serve the food.”
I nodded before I saw he makes his move to the annoying table.
Phew. You don’t know how grateful I am when you say that, Ohno.
And like other days, we busily moved around the restaurant for the all day. Both Ohno and I were working as the waiters while Aiba lent his help in the kitchen with his parents. As hour by hour passed, the sky gradually changed to orange and the beach full with couples; holding hands or enjoying the beautiful sunset scene with their lover. From a noisy and busy place, this beach suddenly changed into a deep quiet place as no one says anything at all.
However, I didn’t pay so much attention to them and continue with my work to clean up the tables.
“Look.” I turned to Ohno beside me when he suddenly nudged my arm. As I brought my gaze to the place he was pointing at, both of us just crept with a smile.
Aiba’s parents as well are one of the pairs there. Well, age is not a matter to still being a lovey-dovey couple, huh?
“Sorry for disturbing!”
“Ah, welcome-eh?” He didn’t manage to finish his words. I meanwhile gaped in disbelief when my band mates just steadily entered the restaurant with guitar and backpack with them.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“I invite them to come.” Aiba said as he came out from the kitchen. While taking off his apron, he just beamed his smile at me.
“Rock Wave is around the corner. So, I think it will be better if we have a practice together.”
I frowned when Nishikido calmly said it.
“But we need to rent a studio first right?”
“About that, no need to worry! You guys can use this restaurant’s stage even though…well; it is not as big as the real stage.”
“It’s more than enough for us Aiba-chan. Plus, it’s a good training for us to overcome stage fright, right guys?”
The rest band members just nodded.
Wait. Wait. Wait.
“Wait. Does it mean we’re going to make a performance here?”
“Uh-yup.”
“In front of the customers?”
“Uh-yup.”
“When?”
“Tonight of course.”
…E-Eh?
“Eh? Wasn’t it meant they need to prepare for their performance now? They’re running out of time!”
“Ah! Hurry up then! Go! Go! Go!”
Clumsily, he pushed them all to the staff room. I just looked at them before got a pat on my shoulder.
“Why are you still here?”
“Um? Ah!”

Yui’s bright smile received a loud cheer from the audience aka; customers. Phew. My body is already damp with sweat. But it’s nothing to compare with Ohkura who is already dripping behind his drum set. I have no idea how come he could play that long with such this heat.
“Before I forgot, I would like to introduce our new band mate; Kazunari-kun. Give him applause everyone!”
Ugh…I could feel my face is heat up now. Everyone is looking at me with their clapping hands that makes me immediately look down due to the embarrassment.
D*mn! Stop looking at me!
“Kazunari-kun!!!”
The three old hags screamed hysterically while waving their hands at me.
Oh, sh*t. How I wish someone can give me an empty bucket for throwing up now.
“Alright everyone. Thank you for let us to heat up your summer tonight. And now, time for us to sing our last song.”
I just returned Nishikido’s smile when few customers there let out a sigh or ‘eeehhh’ in dissatisfied.
“SO, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!!!”
The audience lifted their fist highly with a loud cheer, including Aiba and Ohno from the other side of the place.
“LET’S JAM!” And Ohkura started his part immediately.
For the whole song, the crowd cheered, clapped and lifted their hands; totally enjoy with our play. I can feel that none of my band members wanted to stop with those unexpected reactions. But anyhow, we were also feeling so tired despite of the short time we got.
I NEVER enjoy my summer like this.
I NEVER enjoy entertaining people like this.
And I NEVER get an appreciation like this.
Definitely, this will be an unforgettable summer for me!
“THANK YOU!”
Yui loudly said as we finally ended our last song. All of us then immediately lined up and hold hands with each other. As we bowed together, the audience immediately stood up and gave a big applause for us. Even though we were sweating and panting hardly on the stage, none of us showed it.
Finally, we straightened up back before walked down from the stage with a satisfied smile plaster on our faces. As soon as I came out from placing the guitar and changed my shirt at the staff room, pair of hands suddenly embraced my body tightly at the door step.
“YOU’RE SO COOOOLLL!!!”
Gosh! If this guy kept doing this to me, I will definitely become ‘the late Kazunari’ faster!
“Fun time ended, Masaki. Now, lend your help at the kitchen!”
“But dad-!” But also without waiting for his next words, uncle immediately dragged him from us. Aiba pleaded us to help him, but I and Ohno just,

We just chuckled when Aiba furiously pouted with a glare.
“New customers at table 5!”
“Coming!”
“Eh? You’re still tired. Let me take the order.”

I said while taking a small book from my back jeans pocket. But as soon as I lifted my head and look at them, I froze.

Yui’s bright smile received a loud cheer from the audience aka; customers. Phew. My body is already damp with sweat. But it’s nothing to compare with Ohkura who is already dripping behind his drum set. I have no idea how come he could play that long with such this heat.
“Before I forgot, I would like to introduce our new band mate; Kazunari-kun. Give him applause everyone!”
Ugh…I could feel my face is heat up now. Everyone is looking at me with their clapping hands that makes me immediately look down due to the embarrassment.
D*mn! Stop looking at me!
“Kazunari-kun!!!”
The three old hags screamed hysterically while waving their hands at me.
Oh, sh*t. How I wish someone can give me an empty bucket for throwing up now.
“Alright everyone. Thank you for let us to heat up your summer tonight. And now, time for us to sing our last song.”
I just returned Nishikido’s smile when few customers there let out a sigh or ‘eeehhh’ in dissatisfied.
“SO, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!!!”
The audience lifted their fist highly with a loud cheer, including Aiba and Ohno from the other side of the place.
“LET’S JAM!” And Ohkura started his part immediately.
For the whole song, the crowd cheered, clapped and lifted their hands; totally enjoy with our play. I can feel that none of my band members wanted to stop with those unexpected reactions. But anyhow, we were also feeling so tired despite of the short time we got.
I NEVER enjoy my summer like this.
I NEVER enjoy entertaining people like this.
And I NEVER get an appreciation like this.
Definitely, this will be an unforgettable summer for me!
“THANK YOU!”
Yui loudly said as we finally ended our last song. All of us then immediately lined up and hold hands with each other. As we bowed together, the audience immediately stood up and gave a big applause for us. Even though we were sweating and panting hardly on the stage, none of us showed it.
Finally, we straightened up back before walked down from the stage with a satisfied smile plaster on our faces. As soon as I came out from placing the guitar and changed my shirt at the staff room, pair of hands suddenly embraced my body tightly at the door step.
“YOU’RE SO COOOOLLL!!!”
Gosh! If this guy kept doing this to me, I will definitely become ‘the late Kazunari’ faster!
“Fun time ended, Masaki. Now, lend your help at the kitchen!”
“But dad-!” But also without waiting for his next words, uncle immediately dragged him from us. Aiba pleaded us to help him, but I and Ohno just,
“Bye-bye~ ”
…with a wave.
We just chuckled when Aiba furiously pouted with a glare.
“New customers at table 5!”
“Coming!”
“Eh? You’re still tired. Let me take the order.”
“It’s fine. Plus, we need a lot of hands now.”
Then, I immediately made my move to the table. I can see they were coming in family.
“May I take your order, please?”
I said while taking a small book from my back jeans pocket. But as soon as I lifted my head and look at them, I froze.
“Kazunari-kun?”
