Disclaimer: Plot 65% from me, 35% based on the real drama. The characters are not mine!
Summary: Based on Ryusei no Kizuna drama with slight change. 5 brothers sneaked out from their house to watch meteor shower but only found their parents were brutally murdered after returned home. 14 years later, the police unfortunately still could not find the culprit behind their parents death. The brothers meanwhile already become grown-up men and move to Tokyo, but still close with each other. They fill their days with laugh and funny quarrel despite of the deep grudge they hold toward their parents' murderer for the whole past years.
A/N: Their surname is Ariake.
“Satoshi!!!”
Satoshi calmly turn around for a while before continuing with his job to sweep the floor. He just hum as response when his boss suddenly hugs him from behind.
“I need your help!”
“Again?”
He feels a nod.
“Mind to tell me why for this time?”
“My wife told me that she’ll have her classmates’ reunion dinner tonight! I’m curious what kind of friends she is going to see so I must follow her!”
The worker just dumbly nods without looking at his boss.
“So…You will right?”
“No.”
“Eh? Why?!”
“Cause I’ve fishing trip tonight. My brothers have banned me from fishing for 2 months and I desperately need to catch at least five tonight.”
At the moment he says his target, his eyes glittering with hope, passion and happiness while his hand grasping into a determine fist. The boss then suddenly forces him to look at him straight face to face. With the older man’s hands on his shoulders and his eyes beam with super-duper puppy’s eyes, Satoshi can sense how much the man hopes that he is going to say YES.
“Please?”
“No.”
“Come on.”
“No.”
“For serious?”
“What?”
“You’re not going to help me just for this time?”
“YES.”
“How about I give you a day off as exchange?”
The Ariake eldest son stays quiet before determinedly returning his boss's eyes.
“No.”
“Then two?”
Satoshi does not answer immediately as his head starts to make a fishing calculation in his head.
A day off + another day off = 48 hours fishing trip.
Immediately, his sleepy eyes snap wider with his head nods excitedly.
“Sure!”
“I LOVE YOU!”
The boss embraces his body tightly. As soon as he let go of the younger guy’s body, he runs to the kitchen with a huge smile plasters on his face.
“You can have your break during lunch! I’ll take my leave on 3!”
“Eh? That’s early.”
However, he does not complain and just neatly puts the broom in his hand into the back storage room. He then takes off of his blue apron and hangs it on the wall of the staff’s room. Just when he is about to tells the older man that he is taking his leave; his phone suddenly vibrates to indicate a new incoming message.
From: Sho
Subject: Lunch
Wanna have kyoudai’s lunch together, Aniki? My treat! See me at the café in front of my company’s building :D
“Great timing Sho.”
He replies it shortly and flips off his phone. After informing his off, he immediately walks out from the Café he is working at. Fortunately the distance between his workplace and Sho’s are only 10 minutes by walk. As he finally reaches the mentioned Café, he immediately looks for his younger brother’s face. He then sees the other one waves to him from one of the table there before moving to approach their lunch table immediately.
“Your order?”
Satoshi looks up at the ceiling for a while, thinking.
“Curry rice and Soda.”
Sho just nods and calls for the waitress nearby. While the other one tells the waitress about their order, Satoshi just silently sits and looks around the place. He only turns to Sho in front him when they were left alone again.
“What happen?”
“Huh?”
“You won’t suddenly invite me like this for no reason.”
Sho let a heavy sigh out by his words.
They are borned as a family for nothing. After their parents were murdered 14 years ago, they were sent to an orphanage and lived there for several years until Satoshi decided to raise his brothers by his own after he reached 18. It was true that he is mostly spacing out when his brothers are telling them about their problems and totally useless when it comes about their household's financial (which becomes the reason why Sho is finally the one who handles it until now), but he still knows his brothers well.
Suddenly, Sho drops his head on the table.
“About the bills again.”
“Don’t tell me it’s costing a bomb again?”
The younger one nods.
“I need Aniki to settle half of it or my entire pay for this month will be gone…”
Watching how rare for Sho to look depress like that makes Satoshi could not help but laugh. Sho, Jun and him are living in a same apartment with three bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a not so huge but comfortable living room. Jun now is studying in college in fashion designing major and must settle his assignments soon, but he needs to use a lot of electric equipment and buy piles of things which is not surprisingly will make Sho’s wallet becomes thin again. Though the eldest one timelessly told Sho that they can divide the bills and rent, the guy was really stubborn as he said that this is the only thing he can do to redeem for could not help Satoshi to look for money from the moment they left the orphanage until he graduated from university. The truth though; it was Satoshi who forced him to just focus on study and school first.
“Even you don’t ask me about this, I’ll still want to pay it.”
“No! I want to do something too after what Aniki have through to raise all of us. Plus, you give Kazu and Jun pocket money every month, so I don’t want to burden you again.”
“Sho, you pay for Jun’s study by yourself too. It’s already more than what you should do, okay? We’re family after all. Even if you ask Masa to lend a help, I believe he doesn’t mind too.”
“I can handle it, Aniki. And I’m happy to do that.”
He smiles.
“Talk about the three, I think you should stop from give Kazu monthly pocket money. He’s already working now and it’s time for him to be independent though…I prefer if he further his study to university.”
“It’s fine. He needs the money for buy games right?”
Sho snorts by the older one simple answer. That is the main reason why he does not let Satoshi to handle their bills or groceries.
Few minutes later, their order finally have been served. Both of them quietly enjoy their meal until Satoshi finally remembers about something.
“I’ll be home late tonight.”
“Again? George really loves his wife, huh?”
They just laugh before Sho abruptly stops and passes him tissues.
“Can’t you eat with table manner?! You spurt your food like Masa!”
The eldest however just ignores it and continue his eating.
“This is what we call the way of manly guy’s eating, you know.”
And he gains a smack on head. Both guys then continue to enjoy their lunch with laugh follow here and there all the time. After paying for their orders, Sho bids his brother a good luck and heads back to the huge building he is working at. Satoshi meanwhile walks back to his workplace with a satisfied and full stomach. Later, he glances on his watch and stops when he realizes that he still has lot of times to spend.
“..Maybe I should go and see Masa now.”
Immediately, he turns around and crosses the road to Masaki’s workplace. Compared to the café where he just met Sho, the place is a bit much further but finally, he found a shop with a ‘Handmade Clay pottery’ board on it. He tries to look for his cheerful brother from outside before someone suddenly greets him from behind.
“Are you looking for Ariake-kun?”
“Ah, yeah.”
The tall man immediately tells him to wait while he goes inside. After the man lost from his sight, Satoshi slowly steps closer to the place. A year after he decided to raise his brothers by himself, Masaki made them surprised by suddenly said that he wanted to move to Tokyo to help their family or at least, did not add more trouble to Satoshi for needed to do three jobs a week in order to gain some money for their house rent, households and most importantly; their school. Masaki was only 16 on that time which of course made the other four brothers to protest his decision especially Sho since he thinks it is better if Masaki finish the school first. Sho even almost find for a part time job so he can lessens Satoshi’s burden while at the same time trying to avoid their family from being apart.
However, after a lot of arguments, fights and disagreements, Masaki finally left their house secretly with Satoshi’s approval.
“ANIKIIII!!!!”
A sudden hug from the cheerful guy makes Satoshi curves with a smile. He does not realize when the guy was coming out at all.
“Why you suddenly come here? It’d been a long time since the last time we meet each other right?”
“Yep. And on the contrarily, I’m actually wondering why you didn’t come to our place after so long?”
“We’ve a lot of works to do here. Even now we’re working for 100 same clay pots. But I think I’m free for a while after that.”
“That’s awesome!”
“Right? And I think my hands are much dependable to finish it than before!”
The third brother releases his body and cheerfully shows his palms. Even in a short glance, the eldest can see how rough Masaki’s hands are after working there for almost 8 years. Sometimes he feels guilty for make the other one to work in such a young age, but thanks to him also, he finally able to spend more time with Sho, Kazu and Jun at home. Furthermore, Masaki’s stubbornness on moving out also was unexpectedly help them to cut 8 years of the third brother life’s cost from their saving.
“You smell curry, Aniki. Curry rice for lunch?”
“Sho-nii’s treat.”
“Eh? Why all of sudden?!”
“He wanted me to pay half of the electric’s bill and rest.”
The younger one laughs.
“Sho-nii actually can ask me too if he want. I don’t mind at all.”
“Well, you know that Sho-nii is man with a pride. He won’t.”
“I hope not because he feels owe to me. We’re family.”
Maybe he is, Satoshi thought. Though Sho never mention it, he knows that the second eldest always thinks that he owes Masaki. Sho believes that he will never able to further his study to a prestigious university if Masaki decided to stay with them and continued his schooling since it will cost a lot of money for them.
“ARIAKE!!! CONTINUE YOUR WORK NOW!!!”
The younger brother startles by the scary shout.
“Yeah! I’m coming!”
His clumsy action makes Satoshi to burst with a laugh.
“I’m sorry Aniki! Let’s talk again later!”
“Okay! See ya’!”
Another smile shows on Satoshi’s face when he watches Masaki lost inside the small factory.

“Thank you. Please come again.”
He bows at the last customer while opening the door for her. After the customer lost under the dark night, Satoshi immediately turns to the coffee tables behind him and pouts. It just a small restaurant, but he needs to wash all the dishes, clean the tables, sweep the floor, arranges the chairs and not forget to close the place all by himself. His boss is really picky whenever it comes to look for a worker or perhaps he will has someone to help him now.
As time goes quickly, he finally done with his cleaning job and tiredly locks the door to go home. Few times his eyes almost close because of sleepiness until he thinks he maybe need a laid on any park bench that he saw. But somehow, he still succeeds to reach home.
“I’m home…”
With a wide yawn, he closes the door behind him.
“Welcome home.”
The reply makes Satoshi nods.
Soon, he looks up again and realizes a familiar guy is holding a game console in front of the television.
“Kazu?”
“I’ve fight with my girl, so I’ll stay one night here.”
The older just blinks confusedly. Just when he almost continue to walk further, he surprises by a motionless body right in front of his feet.
“Sho? Why are you sleeping here? You’ll get a cold.”
“I’m not sleeping! Just when I plan to saved more electric after coming home, that guy suddenly show up and shamelessly used our living room’s plug and television! He has no idea how much I suffered when read our electrical’s bill before!”
“You’re such a stingy Sho-nii. I know that we’re having global economy crisis right now and our country currently need to save more electric, so that’s why I came here rather instead of staying in hotel which can cause more electric to use. Don’t you think I’m such a good example for our community? Sharing is caring after all, right Aniki?”
“Ah? Un, yep.”
“See?”
Sho immediately crawls to Kazu’s side and sits furiously.
“Aniki’s word doesn’t count. All of us know he is a typical ‘YES-man’ especially when it comes about YOU! And don’t try to talk about economy with me! You know nothing at all, you freeter!”
And both guys start to make fuss about each other’s job. Satoshi for a while just confusedly watches them, but later shrugs and walks into the kitchen.
This year Kazu already reached 22 years old, but still not interested to look for any permanent job and just keep change his job which always gain a long nag from Sho whenever the two guys meet. The fourth brother maybe always look like he does not care about his life, but Satoshi knows more. Kazu is actually always put them as his top priority since he is young. When they are still studying at school several years ago, Kazu was actually a really talented baseball star and at the same time always gained a good grade in his study. He supposed to have a chance to enter Koshien, but he refused his teacher’s offer as he said it was troublesome to attend the practice. Actually, it was because he did not want Jun to stay alone at home since Satoshi was always busy with part time jobs and Sho usually stayed at the school’s library after class.
“Excuse me Sho-nii, but I’m too busy to listen to your bored ‘speech’ now. Can’t you see I’m beating the zombies now? Plus, I’m old enough to decide about my life, so shhhhh.”
Sho however just crosses his arms in front of his chest.
“Then if you old enough; GO BACK to YOUR GIRL’S PLACE.”
“Nah. She’s like a fierce lion now. Well, I bet she thinks it’s easy to look for a good job with a nice pay nowadays.”
At the same time, their eldest brother finally comes out from the kitchen with a glass of water. He is drinking his water when he notices Sho’s eyes glittering with sympathy while staring at Kazu who is still enthusiastically pressing his joystick’s buttons. Later, Sho suddenly pats the younger one’s shoulder.
“You know, your girlfriend was just worried about you. I believe she’s seriously wanted to live for the rest of her life with you so that’s why she becomes mad about your job. How about you call her now and tell her that she’s important to you too and ask her to give you some more time?”
The tense on Sho’s face loosens dramatically while saying it. Unexpectedly, the fourth brother abruptly pauses his game before slowly turning to his Sho-nii’s face.
“I don’t want to be told by a 24 years old single man who never has a girlfriend in his entire life.”
And he calmly continues play with his game again. The poor Sho however jaw hanging by it with his left hand moves to his aching heart. Immediately, he turns to their eldest brother who still quietly watching from the kitchen’s door steps; hoping for a support from the other one.
“Kazu, Sho-nii just wants to help you.”
“But Aniki, he’s amateur in every way of love.”
“Oi, oi. At least, I still know how to sing a love song.”
Kazu just rolls his eyes and the two of them begin to hold argument with each other again. Since they were young, Sho and Kazu will always have a small fight like that. Back then Sho was the one who always win, but as they grew up, Kazu became more and more brat-ish till Sho finally cannot defeat him at all. Probably he had posses with such amazing way of talking after he numerous times defense them and himself from being mocked by the children who live close with the orphanage that they were staying at.
Just when Satoshi is about to go back to the kitchen, Jun’s bedroom door suddenly being opened.
“Oh, Aniki. Welcome home.”
“Un. I’m home.”
The youngest brother immediately approaches him; ignoring the small match of Sho VS Kazu in the living room.
“Are you hungry? There’s still a lot of leftover.”
“No…I think I’m sleepy.”
“Well, I think it’s quite obvious.”
Satoshi sees the other one chuckles before taking the glass from his hand to help him wash it.
Jun is a year younger than Kazu and now in his third year of degree. Though he is the youngest among them, he can do everything by himself, maybe after he was always left alone at home. Every day after work Satoshi will definitely found their dinner already has been prepared on the table which he knows is Jun’s cooking. At first the youngest's cook can be stated as terrible, but after constantly did it since Jun was afraid if his brothers will not have enough nutrition after school or work, his cook now can be stated beyond marvelous. It however also proves how lonely Jun is. He rarely has someone to talk to especially after Masaki went out and Kazu decided that he is not going to stay with them when they moved to live at Tokyo so Sho can go to his university easier. Though, the youngest one never complain. He always understands their family’s situation and how busy Satoshi and Sho are. Nowadays, Jun usually attends a group date or hangs out with his friends if he feels bored, but not without making dinner for his brothers first.
“Why don’t you go change and sleep then?”
Satoshi startles and turns around immediately. After giving a pat on his eldest brother’s back, Jun moves to the only couch in their living room and sit down with phone in his hand. Everyone knows that Jun is a caring person. He and Sho even realize that if they do not have Jun stay with them, their house will seriously full with mess now. After all, the guy is the one who always does the cleaning including laundry, putting their clothes back into their wardrobe, buying groceries and on and on and on.
Sometimes both of them feel that Jun is actually fit to be a housewife more, but thinking that Jun is going to throw them out from the window of their third floor apartment to the car’s lot under there; they never dare to say it loud.
“You guys are noisy. Our next door is going to make a voodoo doll for each of you if you’re not going to stop now.”
He says with his thumbs busily type something on his phone.
“Wooo~ it’s not my fault, dude. Sho-nii is trying to be a love doctor with touching advises as his shining syringe here. Though what I can see just a chipmunk with sloping shoulders.”
“OI!”
The fight makes Satoshi’s eyes fresh again. It always fun to watch his brothers to argue like that since they were still kids. Sometimes when Sho could not stand with Kazu’s tease anymore, he will look for him or Masaki as an alley, but never Jun.
Why?
Well, for those who think the second last and the last child cannot get along with each other are definitely wrong. The two guys always makes him to come out with another Ariake Satoshi’s infamous calculation which is; Ariake Kazunari + Ariake Jun = A real example of a real partner in crime.
“Eh? I thought you’re a SINGLE man with ZERO luck on girls, Sho-nii?”
“OIIIII!!! AM NOT!!!!”
Jun just nod with disbelieve looks. Suddenly, he flips close his phone and looks at them.
“Maybe I can help you about that, Sho-nii.”
“Eh? What?”
“I’ll ask my friends from the newspaper to make an advertisement with the title; Looking for a girlfriend- Ariake Sho, 24 years old, no marriage's history, no child, inexperience and straight. Single and Available.”
“OHHHH!!! I totally love the last two words! But how about we add ‘always’ in front it?”
“Nice spot, Kazu.”
“GUYS!”
The two younger brothers however just smirk to each other.
“ALWAYS single and available.”
And both of them give a far high five to each other while bursting with hard laugh. Finally losing his patience, Sho immediately smacks Kazu’s head and tries to choke the guy for revenge while Jun just calmly get up from the couch and enter the kitchen; leaving Sho to kill the-will-never-die fourth brother.
“I’m going to heat up our dinner spaghetti! Anyone want some?”
“ME!”
Both of the still arguing guys hands up immediately.
“What? Spaghetti?”
“Yeah. And with T.U.N.A.”
Satoshi quickly pokes his head into the kitchen.
“Jun, full plate please!”
“Coming. Go and change your clothes first. I’ll serve it on table later.”
Without wasting any second, the eldest enters his own bedroom and hurriedly get change until his head almost stuck on his collar’s shirt. Soon when he comes out; he found Sho and Kazu already dug hungrily their food peacefully side by side. Feel his mouth is watery enough, Satoshi immediately takes his seat next to Jun and enjoy his midnight dinner with a wide grin.
“Aniki, you’re seriously going to rip your mouth if you keep smiling like that.”
They burst with laugh when the eldest one starts to gibberish with Italian’s tone. Then, Satoshi finally realizes there is a plate of untouched spaghetti on the table.
“You serve extra one, Jun?”
“No. I just sent a message to invite someone to join us.”
All of a sudden, they heard a knock on the door.
“It wasn’t locked.”
Someone immediately turns the knob and pulls it open.
“Long time no see guys~ I bring beverages for us!”
Satoshi and Sho gape excitedly by the numbers of cans inside the plastic bag in Masaki’s hand. The third brother was about to enter the place when Kazu suddenly screams full lungs with a panic face.
“You’re going to step on poo!!!”
“Eh?!”
Masaki clumsily tries to step further, but only causes him to fall hardly on the living room’s floor with a very loud thud. Sho who already knows how much either Kazu or Jun love to deceive the poor guy, just snort before moving to help Masaki get up and sit with them.
“OI! It’s HURT YOU KNOW!”
Painfully, he rubs his already red nose. He however was totally being ignored by Kazu who not guiltily still continue with his food.
“It can’t be helped. Aniki will never give any reaction whenever we trick or tease him. And since Sho-nii only fun to be teased, we only can use you as our tricking entertainment. Plus, is there any chance of poo will appear in front of the door?”
“Well, who knows you can’t hold your stomachache any longer and accidentally XX there? It’s not impossible right?”
His words make Satoshi and Sho laugh hardly.
“Are you trying to say people in this house are group of savage?”
“No. I mean it is not impossible cause’, well, baby couldn’t hold back when it comes about this stuff right? And since you and Jun are the youngest here, so-”
“WHAT?! HOW DARE YOU TO INCLUDE MY NAME AS WELL?!”
And the poor, innocence Masaki only can run to save his life when the two furious guys are now chasing him all around the living room until he finally hides behind Sho; hoping some protection from the older one. Satoshi who just silently watch aside since a while ago only can laugh by his brothers’ childish behavior. Though he realizes the scar of their parent’s death will never fade away till the second they found the murderer, this is the only way to make them to treasure more their life and each other’s presence.
That is what they always believe until one day…when they finally found the murderer of their parents.

#Uh...I wonder how this chapter turn out for you (zero confidence...) I'm honestly quite surprise when I realize the number of people read the prologue and now I'm really worry if I'll make you disappoint with the plot (since I'm not going to follow the RnK drama so much or the plot will be too predictable). 5/7/12 14:36 (UTC)Btw, I just read Fixing My Future with the Broken Pieces of My Past. First think, 'Wow, long title'. When I read genre and summaries, 'Oh, angst. Great.' So I start reading it, and you used my ichiban, Nino, as protagonist in this story (with Jun actually). And, after read it, 'Why I just knew this story?' Hehe, I love that story. Honestly, I cried a few times when I read this. You state everyone personality clearly, I can imagine them when I read. Hehe, thanks for sharing that story.. ^^

Well for Nino, I think Nino is identic with angst. Almost all his roles like that. And so I can't wait for his drama SP for 24 hr TV and his movies next year >.

Oh, I'm finally done reading ARASHI series. That story is great, friendship are nice :D I like the ending and I love their cross-dressing picture. Nino is so sexy XDD, Ohno really beautiful with that blue kimono. Lovely picture from kei-san (what should I called her?) Oh oh, I talk too much. Sorry ;D
