Summary: Despite of government 'Project Eternity' declaration, 5 genius boys were saved after their parents managed to hide their real intelligence. 10 years later, they witness their parents get caught in misunderstand and aim to save them.
Yet, they never thought it will drag to something serious.

Chapter 8
When Ohno and his friends arrive at the scientist’s house, they expect he will live in a mansion or at least a bungalow in an isolate area and far from the society and city. Yet, there’s nothing like that. The first thing they’re seen when open the car door is a terrace house with its paint faded due of Tokyo’s weather. It’s also located in neighborhood area and from the way the old man greets the housewives that coincidentally walk there, they realize he’s a friendly person. The only problem is the house behind his looks so old and haunted with only a thin layer of plastic cover a hole on roof, every single window there are broken and the wall decorates with moss and faded grey paint until the five guys don’t even dare to stare it long.
“Make yourself comfortable. Sorry it’s a bit messy in here.”
Realizing the old scientist already unlocking his house for them, the best friends silently get inside. After the door close behind them, the man finally turn on the living room’s light.
“Why don’t open the curtain?”
“Sometimes my neighbors come visit me. I’m afraid they will find out what I’m working on if I don’t pay so much attention.”
Aiba nods. At the same time, Sho notice a facing down photo frame on television stand and moves closer to it. As soon as he lifts it, he found a sight of dusty photo, showing the old man is smiling together with a woman and a girl beside him. The tick dust on glass make Sho to immediately turn his head to the other space of the house, only frowning a moment later when realize only the photo area hasn’t been clean properly compare to others.
“This is…your family?”
Sho sees the man nod while walking to nearby couch and remove pile of his books from it.
“I lived with my wife and daughter back then. But I was too occupied with my job till I didn’t pay attention with my family and realized that my daughter was actually a special kid. My wife didn’t let her go with the army so she hid her and was punished when got caught. I was living in research centre for about 7 months at that time so the government didn’t suspect me to plan the hiding.”
“So your daughter now is working for the government?”
“Was.”
He gain surprise look from the five guys.
“She fell sick and passed away two years after joined Project Eternity. Until now I didn’t know what kind of disease she had. The government didn’t say anything about that.”
“Is it possible there’s any incurable disease spread at the Project Eternity research centre?”
“I don’t think so. The government will never let anything like that to that stay long. It can harm their position and break people trust after all.”
“Well, that’s true.”
Sho then place the photo back to its previous position. Trying to live up the mood, the old scientist immediately turns to them with a wide smile.
“You guys must be tired. How about I serve some coffee-”
“No. Let’s just start with your plan.”
Ohno’s words make the rest look at him, as well make the eldest to stop on his same place.
“I want this over soon. The longer time we take, the more people will suffer. So tell us your plan now and let’s working on it.”
His friends immediately bring their gaze to the eldest in the living room, waiting for the other one answer. Deep inside themselves they agree with their friend’s thought.
However, the eldest seem doesn’t think the same way.
“Something that we do in hurry will give more bad effect than a good one. I understand you still depress and angry with what just happen to your parents and the government’s new declaration, but I’m not going to work on my plan yet especially with you guys’ emotion still unstable now.”
“But last night they’re starting to arrest everyone who has anything to do with special kids’ fail escape attempted case. If we wait any longer, the chance for government to figure out that we’re still alive is getting higher. Once they realize about us, our relatives will be in danger.”
“I told you before that I can cover your relatives, didn’t I?”
“We need proof.”
The hacker suddenly says while crossing his arms. Sighing, the scientist finally just shakes his head. He knows Ohno, Nino and Jun will not budge no matter what kind of excuse or reason he gives.
“Fine. But firstly put your bag on upstairs. The first two doors that you saw after climb up the stairs are bedrooms that I prepared for all of you. I hope you guys don’t mind to share it with each other.”
Sensing his hurting tone, Aiba regretfully looks at his friends after the man takes his leave to a backside room without turning around. Jun is the first one who walks to the upstairs, follow by his friends closely behind a second later. As soon as he open the first door, he and Ohno quickly drop their bag on floor before wondering to every inch of the room starting from futon until the ceiling. Nino at the same time switches on his laptop and starts to type something on it before look at his friends a moment later.
“No electronic wave or abnormal frequency range here.”
“You suspect him hide camera or eavesdropping tool?”
“Well, just for precaution. Let’s check the next room.”
“But gu-”
Aiba only can sigh when they totally ignore him and just step out, leaving both him and Sho behind. Somehow he feels it is rude to do that considering the old scientist also face a horrible experience like them long time ago and how obvious the man try to make them to live there as comfortable as he can. Pouting, the cheerful guy settles himself on the only bed inside the room. Perhaps it belongs to the scientist’s daughter, he thought.
“Do you think he’s deceiving us Sho-chan?”
He asks before toss his head to the other one. Sho doesn’t answer it immediately but folds his arms while leaning on the doorframe, silently watching their other three friends inspecting the next room.
“When I touched his family’s photo I noticed it was covered with thick dust. Seems he didn’t clean or even touched it for quite long. If he’s deceiving us, it wouldn’t be in such bad condition.”
“I thought so.”
A wide grin spread on Aiba’s face.
Sho on the other hand just bring his finger to his chin, slightly rubbing it with a thoughtful expression.

The minute the five of them climb down to downstairs, they found the scientist already sitting on the living room’s couch, waiting for them with a smile. As he gets up, he tells them to follow him into his hidden personal laboratory before lead the small group to the backside room where he disappears in before.
“I saw surname board in front your house before. Hatsuyuki-san right?”
The older one just chuckles.
“Correct. What should I call you guys?”
Starting from Jun, the five guys one by one introduce themselves. Sho become the last one and the moment he tells Mr. Hatsuyuki his name, they already standing in front of an old wardrobe in a room full with paperwork and computer on one side of it. Upon hearing his name, the old man turns around quickly at him. The guys behind frown when he suddenly beams Sho with a relief smile, but don’t question anything.
“Back off guys.”
The youngsters dumbly follow it.
Then with all his might, Mr. Hatsuyuki starts to push the huge wardrobe in front him aside. Aiba almost volunteer himself to help the other one, but when find out there’s hidden stairs into a dark basement under it, he and his friends couldn’t help but surprise. For a while they’re completely speechless and motionless on their standing spot until Mr. Hatsuyuki climb down the stairs and gesture them to follow him.
Few seconds later they finally finish climb down all stairs. Due of the absentness of light source, they just stay still on a same spot. Mix of hesitance and worry gradually build inside the five best friends when listen the scientist’s footsteps echo to all side of the dark basement for a while.
“Come in guys.”
They hear the older one says before turn on the basement’s light. Surprise by the sudden stabbing brightness, they immediately squint their eyes before widening it in disbelief by the sight in front them.
“Be careful with the wires on floor. Don’t trip on it.”
The old scientist then approaches a long desk with multiple computer screens hanging on wall in front it. Totally stun by the basement’s sight, Ohno moves closer to a large cylinder machine at the centre of the wide basement which connect by multiples of colorful wires with computer that the scientist currently using. His eyes sparkle with excitement when unknown codes and coordinates appear and continuously changing on one side of the machine’s body.
“Amazing…”
“You know what it is, Ohno-kun?”
Ohno nods.
“This thing is functioning like a mini satellite right? It can detect and disturb electronics device’s frequency.”
The old man curves with a smile without look away from several screens in front him.
“But its function not only limited for that. I took several years to modify this to something else.”
Frowning, Ohno waits for the other one to continue. His friends behind already walk and stand beside him, also staring at the same person like their friend does.
“What do you mean by something?”
They see the man press another letter on keyboard under his finger before tilt his head to them, still smiling.
“It can clash this entire city communication system. Once this thing fully complete, I only need to enter a code and place’s coordinate to make television, radio, cell phone and computer stop working immediately. Tokyo will be disconnected all in and out.”
Jun widen his eyes in disbelief
“But why you want to do that?”
“My objective is to make the military communication system stop working since it’s impossible to sneak inside there and destroy them with bomb or something else. Besides, the government headquarters already destroyed so for this moment their safest temporary saving information place is only the military’s base.”
“Wait Hatsuyuki-san. You don’t mean your plan is…to attack the military place…right?”
“Well, that’s my plan Sakurai-kun.”
Nothing comes out from the guys’ mouth anymore. Sho and Jun’s eyes almost pop out while Ohno and Aiba feel like their throat suddenly dry. Unexpectedly, Nino lets out a cynical chuckle which make every pair of eyes there move to him instantly.
“Obviously you’re trying to trap us all.”
“I’m not, Ninomiya-kun. To overthrow the government we need to destroy the military first. Anyone afraid to fight government back because the military is on their side and has dangerous weapons, bombs and stuff to protect or destroy whoever the government tells them to. So only by destroying the military first we can make the government weaker.”
“But the soldiers are innocent. They’re drugged to follow everything the government told them. Kill them only will put us in no different level with the government.”
Mr. Hatsuyuki looks at him in disbelief.
“Drugged? How did you know?”
Nino snorts.
“Exactly like I think. Actually you know they’re drugged from the first place didn’t you? You just plan to destroy them so the punishment that we’re going to face once we’re caught for trying overthrow the government will double.”
“I don’t mean it that way. Matsumoto-kun, how did you know they’re drugged because even I never heard about it?”
“Their face shows all the signs of drug user. But we believe it’s because of the gasmask they wear. The government definitely adds something to it.”
Mr. Hatsuyuki lost for words. He just furrows his eyebrows thoughtfully in silence for a while which make the five guys wondering what the older one is thinking or perhaps will plan to do later. Soon, they see he curve with a wide smile and turn to them again.
“Then we only need to find a way to change the gas government gave them.”
“You mean sleeping gas?”
The man nods. Nino however snorts upon hearing the idea. Immediately, he climbs up to upstairs, surprising his friends by the unexpected movement. Aiba clumsily follows his friend from behind while the rest just freeze on same place.
“Guess he still can’t trust me.”
Jun sighs.
“He’s more worried about your idea. No matter what kind of plan you have to sneak inside there and destroy or make them pass out, I believe he think it’s like digging own grave. Honestly, I think the same thing like him too.”
In no time the chemist also walks out from there, leaving now only Ohno and Sho with the scientist behind. Awkward silence fills the entire basement until Ohno finally looks the old man.
“You promised to prove us that you can guarantee our family’s safety before.”
Perhaps doesn’t expecting him to stay there instead of following the other three, Mr. Hatsuyuki just blink for few times. Soon, he tells the younger guys to come closer to show them what he is going to do. Ohno and Sho approach him, but not without warning anything first.
“It’ll take time for us to fully put our faith on you. So, please don’t ruin our hope on you Hatsuyuki-san.”
The scientist smiles determinedly. With a nod, he starts to type something on keyboard under him and start to access into some hidden system.

“Sneaking into military place, huh?”
The hacker sighs while lie down with his full stomach on his futon. His friends around him at the same time whether are preparing their futon or already sit on it. Finally the five of them decide to stay in a same room despite of how cram it is even only three persons sleep inside it.
“We just had dinner Nino. Don’t immediately lie down like that.”
“Yes mommy.”
Sho just rolls his eyes when the other one sit up on his futon in a slow motion. Aiba on the other hand just sigh.
“Can’t you speak nicely to Hatsuyuki-san, Nino? I feel sorry to him. Even during dinner you didn’t look at him at all.”
The hacker immediately shoots him with pair of disbelief eyes.
“Are you sure?”
His question however receives a frowning look from the cheerful guy.
“Don’t you feel any weird wave from him?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, don’t you feel hesitance when you bumped into him the other day or when he talked to you or anytime any place you see him after that meeting till now?”
Aiba shifts backwards on his futon with a quizzical face.
“You’re talking like I’d a crush on him.”
“That’s not what I mean, silly. Just forget about it.”
Totally ignoring Aiba’s change to endless questioning mode, the hacker grabs for his game nearby and just focuses on it. Ohno, Sho and Jun on the other hand exchange stare to each other before decide to just shrug off the topic and start to do their own job. The room back to its silent state for a while until Sho finally brings up the question he really wants to ask his friends since he and Ohno leave the basement’s laboratory before.
“So, you guys still want to go on with Hatsuyuki-san’s plan?”
Feel his friends’ attention are all on him, Sho lift his gaze from reading some article on his laptop immediately.
“This morning Satoshi and I watched Hatsuyuki-san changed our background’s information which means he already kept his promise. So it’s our time to return his favor now.”
“But how come he can do such a thing easily?”
“He’s the government technology research. So it’s not weird if he can access into the government system easily.”
“And it’s not difficult for him to change it back as well right?”
Seeing the hacker lie down on his stomach again with his eyes lock back on his game, Sho can’t help but sighs.
“Somehow I doubt it if he’s deceiving us. We’re right in his place now and he can call the government to arrest us immediately since he also informed that we’re armless and can’t hurt him at all. Yet, nothing happen till now. At least it’s not wrong for us to hope something from him right?”
This time, it is Jun’s turn to sigh.
“You’re right Sho, but we’re putting our life in risk if we agree with his plan. I realize every decision and step we make from this point will have its risk but it is military BASE. You also know they’re drugged and how extreme drug users can be when found someone try to do something that he or she not approves with, what more if it has connection with Project Eternity that they’re protecting most. Plus, I don’t know how dangerous and what kind of mixture the drugged were made of so Hatsuyuki-san’s plan to use sleeping gas has possible chance to fail. At least I want him to change his plan.”
“Like?”
“Well, anything aside of it.”
A moment passes in silence.
“Oh-chan? What do you think?”
Ohno looks at Aiba while covering himself with blanket.
“I just want this to over soon. A lot of people suffering already and I don’t want to lose anyone anymore. As much as I’m thinking about us, I don’t want anything to happen to my sis too. She has nothing to do with the problem the government created and yet, she’s involved with this matter because of my specialty.”
He sighs.
“I can’t help but feel guilty when my parents died and I don’t think I can bear it if my sis will face the same matter too. We just lose our parents so if someone closer dies because of me again I maybe will have no twice thought to do anything as long as the government knows what happened to me. Only because of this abnormal cleverness, everyone around me live in misery-”
Realizing what he just say, Ohno abruptly stop, slightly bites his tongue from forming more word. Pang of sadness hit him when realizing the gloomy radiation on his friends’ face. It’s not he’s the only one who lose persons he love most and worry about his still alive blood related and yet, he still talk like he’s the one who suffering the most here.
“I-I shouldn’t say that. Sorry…”
Aiba quickly shakes his head while Jun beams him with a sincere smile.
“You’re depressed. We understand that. Plus, you’re the only one who still has closest family among us so it’s understandable if you feel that way.”
After the serious conversation the mood in that room sinks to lighter one when they start to so their own things with some talk about random things here and there. Jun is the first one who decides to go sleep first follows by Aiba some minutes later. Right when Ohno want to bury his head on his pillow, he stops by Sho’s sudden question.
“How the mini satellite that Hatsuyuki-san showed us actually affects the communication system? Does it effecting sky’s humidity, atmospheric and air movement to work?”
He sees Ohno pursues his lip thoughtfully for a while.
“I don’t think so. Maybe he’s going to do it by damaging the communication satellite using the mini satellite as virus. But in anyway, I think it can’t influence a big range of area since it’s something that he’s working on alone and looking by how small it is. Even it’s affecting entire Tokyo some far place would recover immediately after the impact.”
Sho nods and returns to the screen in front him. He is about to ask something again when he see Ohno widely yawn like a hippo. Giggling, he decides to call it night for the sleepy guy.
“Thanks, you can go sleep now. Good night.”
Ohno gives a half awake nod. Sho at the same time back to his laptop’s screen till he hear a sleepy mumble from his friend.
“I’ll ask Hatsuyuki-san more detail about it tomorrow.”
A chuckle from Sho follows it immediately.
“Okay.”
Soon, the room fills with three sleeping guys’ soft snore. Sho and Nino meanwhile still busy with whatever they doing for an hour or more until the hacker hear shutting down’s sound.
“Going sleep already?”
He sees his sloping shoulder friend nods while scratching the back head of his.
“You’re not sleepy yet Nino? It’s midnight already.”
“Nope. Somehow I feel fresh.”
With a silent nod as reply, Sho lie down on his futon.
A minute later, Nino gets up from his futon to turn off the light so the four guys can sleep more comfortable. He knows he act so childish when he suddenly feel jealous with his friends who already dive into their cozy dream-land, but it couldn’t be help since he feels so energetic till the point he can’t even close his eyes. So as silent and careful as he can, he moves toward the door and shut it once he already outside. The only thing he can hope now is a glass of cold water to wash off his energy, back to room and follow his friends.
Right when he is half way climbing down the stairs however, he freeze as he realizes there’s someone is sitting on the living room’s couch, head down to look on something in his grip.
‘Hatsuyuki-san?’
Under the dim light from the stair’s lamp, he notices a trace of tears flow down to the old man’s cheek.
‘…I shouldn’t see this.’
He decides to return immediately. Due of his unawareness, he however stumbles back and hardly hit the stair step behind. Now, the scientist is looking at his direction while Nino only can curse himself silently.
“Ninomiya-kun?”
Mr. Hatsuyuki calmly wipes his tears. It is then Nino finally realizes that the thing in the older man grips is actually the family photo frame that Sho ask about this morning.
“Is there something uncomfortable with the room?”
Nino quickly shakes his head.
“Everything is fine. I was thinking to grab some water.”
“Ah, let me take it for you then.”
Before the hacker can stop him, the old scientist already gets up from his couch. The moment he sees the other man’s figure disappears into kitchen, Nino somehow feel like heavy guiltiness weighing his shoulders. Half minute later he found the man show up with a glass of water for him. He just about to take it from Mr. Hatsuyuki’s hand when a sudden doorbell sound follows by a rough voice from intercom startle them.
-“Sorry for disturbing professor Hatsuyuki. I am Alpha unit leader, specializing for Project Eternity new law. We received order to come here. Please open your door.”
